Secondary Education - Important Reminders
1) Dual Enrollment planning meetings are under way. The intended outcomes of the meeting are threefold:

·        Confirm fall dual enrollment offerings

·        Confirm spring, 2019 dual enrollment offerings

·        Open discussions on your school’s dual enrollment four-year plan

We will be having a DE four-year plan workshop in October for those schools that need support in the process. Stay tuned for the date and location of the workshop.

2) Master Schedule Planning – We will soon be sending out meeting notifications for our upcoming master schedule planning meetings. These meeting are essential in helping plan for the 2019-2020 school year, and as usual, we will have a team of experts attending to offer their support in addressing any challenges in their areas of expertise and providing information and insight about possible master schedule options to improve opportunity, access, equity and success for your students.

The TIPS department is excited to host our first Professional Development Conference of the 2018-2019 school year on Wednesday, October 24^th at Spurgeon Intermediate from 4:00 – 6:30pm. There are over 15 sessions being offered! ALL SAUSD staff is invited to attend. The first 75 teachers (outside of the induction program) to register will receive compensation at the PD rate.

Early Childhood Education - It's EDI Time!! The Early Development Index is an observational checklist that kindergarten teachers complete on each child in their classroom. The tool measures 5 areas of development (physical health & well being, social competence, emotional maturity, language & cognitive development, communication skills and general knowledge).  21 schools have been selected to participate, so please keep an eye out for the email from ECE with directions for how to proceed.  In order to receive an individualized school report, at least 75% of your kindergarten teachers must participate.  If less than 75% participation, your site will still receive the District and County reports.  Thank you in advance for your support!

PI - Instructional Leadership Team Reflection Tool (Red=link)
Principals should have received a copy of the KPI ILT Reflection Tool.  This tool is designed as a step by step support for principals working with their ILT to complete the self-assessment in preparation for the November KPI.

KPI Visit - November! 
KPI Leads will be reaching out to principals to schedule their first KPI visit for the year during the month of November. The KPI visit lasts approximately 2 hours.  Attendees include the KPI Lead, KPI team members, the principal, and as many members of the ILT as possible.  Principals at other schools within the KPI group are also invited to attend.  A revised KPI Visit protocol can be accessed here.

MAP Training Opportunities - Research and Evaluation has days available for professional development on modified Wednesdays.  Let us come out to your site to work with you teachers on how to best utilize fall MAP Growth results for instructional purposes. 

Illuminate Assessments Training Opportunities - With more and more assessments being administered online, teachers can take advantage of the assessment administration option in Illuminate.  Research and Evaluation can come out to your site to train your teachers on how to create, administer, and grade assessments through Illuminate.

 | What is it?   | R&E is offering professional development on the use of state and local assessment data for instructional purposes in order to support student achievement.  R&E proposes to develop local capacity through a cohort of “Data Lead Experts (DLE)” who will receive in-depth professional development and coaching. The DLE will play a critical role to improve the use of data for instruction.

 | Who are we looking for? | One to two certificated staff participates from each school site.     
| What will participants receive? | Upon completion of training, participants will receive a certificate recognizing their participation as DLE and will be considered a certified DLE.

Cognitive Coaching Training
The TIPS department will be able to host the second level (Part II) of the Cognitive Coaching training series this spring. All training sessions will be held here, at the district office. This training is available to all who completed Part 1 of Cognitive Coaching (either with us or through OCDE).

Data Dialogues- 12/12 by appointment
Our new teachers will be sharing key learning as a result of their first teacher Inquiry Cycle. The Data Dialogue features new teachers illustrating the effort they have made to achieve the measurable objective they set for student outcomes. The new teacher, mentor, and Partnership Learning Coach offer feedback and share their expertise.  If administrators wish to attend, please contact the TIPS Department, extension 75676.

CENA
In our efforts to ensure that we provide support and care for our neediest families in Santa Ana, we will be hosting our annual Caring Educators Nourishing All (CENA) event, a Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) tradition for more than 25 years.

Each year at CENA, Santa Ana Unified employees, community partners, families, and friends come together to provide a warm meal, toys, and books to hundreds of our students and their families on Christmas Eve.

Volunteering and participating in CENA is a highlight for our families during the Holiday Season. Last year alone, we were able to provide a warm holiday meal to more than 2,500 people, and on December 24, 2018, we will continue this tradition at Valley High School, located at 1801 S. Greenville Street.

We hope that we can count on your support of this truly worthwhile endeavor. There are several ways that you can participate and make a difference in the lives of our children and families on December 24, 2018.
