September 14, 2018

The Ed Services Spark is our newly launched leadership bulletin. Our goal is to develop stronger communication between the district office and site leaders and provide an archived space to store past updates and key information.

30 hours - Targeted Intervention & Enrichment - several principals have expressed concern about what can, or cannot, be expected with regards to the 30 hours. We will continue to discuss as part of our instructional leadership meetings. A few general thoughts:
- currently, counselors and psychologists are not approved for intervention. SAEA considers this out of line with the intent of the MOU, and we will follow up as more information comes available.
- principals are welcome to propose interventions to their teacher teams. However, if individual teachers insist on alternative interventions and enrichments, we have to consider those fairly.
- it is appropriate for principals to request a summary report of activities and impact at the conclusion of the intervention.
- the FTE count for your site was an estimate that did not include special education staff. We know we'll need to make adjustments when we release the second half of the funding.

Growth Evaluation Pilot - You should have all received the revised documents for the growth evaluation pilot. A few reminders:
- Temporary and probationary teachers cannot use the growth pilot. They must be evaluated using the current system (pre-conf, observation, post-conf).
- We have negotiated adjusted timelines for participants in the pilot. Teachers must share initial self-reflection by 10/2. Goal-setting with administrators must occur by 10/23. The full timeline for the 2018-19 year will be posted shortly.

Instructional Leadership Meeting - Our next meeting will take place on Thursday, September 20th, at the district office. Lunch begins at noon with a meeting start at 12:30 pm.

Early Childhood- The Early Childhood Education Department is pleased to announce that all 5 of our Dual Immersion classrooms are up and running successfully!

Inside the Outdoors - NGSS Aligned Field Trips

Inside the Outdoors programs incorporate Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) lessons from the classroom and create fun, hands-on experiences about science and nature. E-mail Outreach Manager, Yarib Dheming, at ydheming@ocde.us or call (714) 708-3891 for more information.
