SS.2.2.6 Discuss and explain the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance and identify other ways citizens can affirm their citizenship. 
SS.2.2.7 Explain the consequences of violating laws, including punishment of those who do wrong, and the importance of resolving conflicts appropriately. 

Lesson:

Session 1: Create list as a class of the qualities of a good citizen. Next to that list, create a list of what it means to be a good citizen of the church.

Session 2: Have students complete the worksheet with ways they can be good citizens. Then have students underline the qualities that can also help them be good citizens of the church.

Students respond to a writing prompt from "Dex: The Heart of a Hero" asking if they would offer help to someone who had been mean to them in the past.  In our class discussion, we review Jesus' teaching of the Great Commandment. The students should form a response that reflects Jesus' teachings and uses text evidence to support their opinions.  Students share their writing with the class.
