I can guide the students in making meaningful comparisons between two sentences by first modeling two sentences, picking out the part of speech I see. I can also get students to see if they agree or if they would like to add similar words. Then have group to do the same, first noticing the part of speech and see if they can come up with different ones.

A model I would use to help students revise their word choice is use a Frayer model. I can create a graphic organizer or a digital graphic organizer with four boxes: synonym, antonym, non-example (so we can see what does not fit and a picture box so students can draw what the word means.

I’d have students participate in peer review by exchanging their work with a partner or small group. They would use a rubric or checklist to guide their feedback on specific aspects, such as word choice, sentence variety, and clarity of ideas. I would circulate the room during peer review, providing real-time suggestions and support. For example, if I overhear a student struggling to offer feedback, I might step in with, “I see that the sentence uses the word ‘very.’ Can you think of a word that eliminates the need for ‘very’ and makes the sentence stronger?” Peer review empowers students to critically analyze writing while receiving prompt feedback from their classmates and the teacher.
