He drove a tank! He gave his life on 26th Oct 1944 at the age of 21 and was laid to rest in Ryes War Cemetery in Bazenville.

She survived the war, married Henry Thomas Smith and had lots of children and grand-children. 

Henry (Known as Tom) fought in the 2nd world war in the RAF.  He survived the war and had a happy life with Audrey.

He was in the desert in Africa and then moved up through Italy as the war was finishing. Although it was f rightening experience, he used to joke about cooking in old oil drums in the desert!

Lost his life whilst serving in Afghanistan on 20th July 2009. Dan was a wonderful person who was married to a very close friend of mine. He is missed by everyone who knew him.

Fought in the Gulf War in 1990-1991, came home when I was born! An amazing father and a brilliant human being. 

The Royal British Legion helped fund my teaching degree!! So I wear my poppy with great pride.

He told some amazing stories. Holly and James never got to meet him, but we pass on his stories to them.
(Holly & James Miller's great grandad)]]> 2016-11-11 09:31:00 UTC https://padlet.com/rebecca39/Hartsholmeremembrancewall/wish/136955520 ginaclarke1 https://padlet.com/rebecca39/Hartsholmeremembrancewall/wish/136970782 Albert was in the Lincolnshire Regiment before WWI started and then joined the Royal Flying Corps (which formed into the RAF) when WWI began.  He was an airframe engineer and during the war served in France and Germany.  He died 5 years after WWI ended due to the effects of being gassed during his time in Germany.  His son George grew up without his father and joined the RAF at 16 years old.  He became a pilot and during WWII he flew Halifax bombers with 78 Sqn.  On the 8th June 1944 the halifax George was piloting crashed near Plessis-Pate (south of Paris) killing all crew members. Gertrude lost her husband and only child in two wars. Following WW1 the survivors of the war named themselves 'The Old Contemptibles'. He was my Great Great Grandfather. Remembered and never forgotten.
