After tradegy strikes and Gatsby is murdered out of misplaced blame, Nick's viewpoint grows from awe to contempt when he realizes the grandiosity of money means nothing when the people you love, don't love you back.

In Harper Lee's, To Kill a Mockingbird, the psychological and moral development of Scout Finch is shown through her relationship with her father, who is representing a black man in court, in a town where racism is heavily prevalent. Scouts ties to her father help to develop her into an accepting young woman, leading to her being able to see people deeper than they appear on the surface, allowing her to see the good in the town outcast, Boo Radley.
