Following the death of Queen Victoria in 1901, a Delhi Durbar was held in 1903 in honor of the crowning of King Edward VII(1841–1910) as the new emperor of India. A temporary tent city and railway were built for the event, which included two weeks of festivities, including fireworks, exhibitions, dances, parades, and banquets.

The Great Game finally ended with the signing of the Anglo-Russian Convention in 1907. Under this agreement, Britain agreed to stay out of northern Persia, and Russia promised to stay away from Tibet, Afghanistan, and southern Persia.
