Hi everyone, since commencing the Msc last year I have learned alot about collaborative learning and was introduced to the idea of communities of practice. I have benefited as a learner from collaborating with others on this course and have since introduced more collaborative methodologies into my role as a clinical educator.

I have no formal training in IPE , however I think IPE is really important as it provides a platform for health care professionals to learn from each other and their combined experience and knowledge. However I find the idea of developing and facilitating interprofessional learning activities a bit daunting due to the challenge of addressing the individual learning needs of different professions, drawing out commonalities in practice that will enhance the learning and keeping the different learners engaged.

I think my learning needs are to understand the theory underpinning IPE so that I can draw on that to design and facilitate activities that are collaborative but also support the individual learning needs of different health care professionals.

Also it would be great to learn from others on this module who have experience in IPE!

I was in the RAF but the course was tri-service so lots of inter service learning. Shared learning & the value of teamwork are principles i have always taken seriously . Collaborative working & learning together is key within the NHS . I like this article on how IPL improves patient care
https://www.nursingtimes.net/roles/nurse-educators/how-interprofessional-learning-improves-care-24-05-2013/
I have completed a PGcert in Practice Teaching so i have a little bit of formal knowledge of IPE. However, i am hoping to learn lots more from completing this module alongside others in different professions in healthcare.

I have also learnt on courses with IPE and have found it very useful in terms of idea sharing and collaboration, so it will be great to learn some of the theory to then put into practice in my own role -which I guess sets my learning needs and my hopes for improvement - some of the comments on here resonate - for example, being able to address the learning needs of different groups in a single session.

Hi all! Though I have some informal experience with IPE as a learner, my familiarity with the theoretical principles of IPE, the role of an IPE facilitator, and strategies for effective delivery of IPE is very limited. Most of my exposure as a learner has come from multidisciplinary team meeting settings (i.e. quality assurance rounds) and from Radiation Oncology conferences (though even these tend do divide along professional lines). As a teacher, I've done a few presentations to a multidisciplinary audience, but to be honest these were not necessarily prepared with the cutting edge evidence base of IPE in mind. :-)
This article from the reading list: "Identifying common values among seven health
professions: An interprofessional analysis" really resonated with me as it speaks to an approach that acknowledges and values the similarities (in competencies, ethics, attitudes) between healthcare professions. Working beyond a traditional scope of practice as an advanced practice radiation therapist, I'm all too familiar with and tired of the idea of "drawing boundaries around knowledge" and trying to monopolize it. I'm looking forward to learning about IPE and infusing its principles into future educational initiatives. I think it's so important to promote a collaborative culture...especially in a comprehensive cancer care service which relies on a multitude of healthcare professionals. I hope to work towards the right recipe, as other have said, for engaging learners from different backgrounds with clear objectives that tap into core concepts and values.
I'll admit I'm a bit nervous due to my lack of experience and formal training, but I look forward to learning from everyone!

I have experienced training as part of a multi agency group. I do wonder how to facilitate teaching to a wide range of professions and how research fits into this. To be honest i never thought before today that there would be specific principles and frameworks around this, so i definitely have a lot to learn

Within my experience of radiotherapy there has been several opportunities for interprofessional learning. When I planned the radiotherapy I was taught by a physicist who explained the theory of the software we use as well as the machine capabilities, parameters as this would effect the quality of the plans we produce. Conversely, the physicists would learn alot from the radiographers based on our experience with patients. For example, the time in which a plan can be delivered countered with how well a patient is...eg how well they would be able to manage. Or what is possible physically from patients in terms of positioning them on the bed etc.
Formally, we had training from clinicians to help us contour organs on radiotherapy scans for treatment plans.
When new trials were introduced into the dept there would be training so we would understand the changes of practice they may bring.
We can learn alot from other professionals and improve our practice and care for our patients through inter-professional learning.
For me currently, studying this module, will help in my current role when working in a multidisciplinary team, enabling me to support others, learn from others and teach others.
Hoping to build on the communication aspects of inter-professional learning

I began studying Radiation Therapy in 2001 and became certified in 2004. During my training, I had a very negative interaction with 1 out of 3 of my clinical educators. At the time, it was very hard to get through the course but because of that experience, I have more to offer including patience and the ability to recognize the individual learning needs of others. Throughout my career, I have taken several courses but more recently, I have taken a clinical educator's course and received a certificate. I remember learning about adult education principles; learning 'types'; intergenerational diversity; coaching principles; and how to give formative feedback. With the above course, it developed confidence to teach students in the clinical setting and help them through their journey. In the workplace, I also was fortunate to teach staff about such topics as skin care during and after radiation therapy and interprofessional training of sexual health and wellbeing during and after a cancer diagnosis. Since the beginning of my career, I have seen a gradual evolution of collaboration between the patient's health care team (nurses, doctors, therapists, social workers, dieticians, etc). I feel that with increasing awareness and training, this has positively developed IPE standards. I do have some experience in this area but moving forward, I have a big task of training nurses, pharmacists, social workers, dieticians, etc for the introduction of radiation therapy into their work day. I have to develop a program to ensure that the best patient care experience will be ready for opening day in oct 2023. This course will help me focus on my task, give me confidence to develop a strategy and help me to develop a well rounded program.

I have no formal education in IPE although experiential learning has been within a formal environment at SHU during lecturing secondment. The main reasons for IPE are
1) to support team working
2) better understand each others roles
3) to overall improve patient safety
I need to develop my confidence in delivering sessions that incorporate creativity and that can draw experience from multi-professionals. I observed a teaching session delivered by an ACP without any pre-written material . The session was delivered as a discussion led by the learners, drawn from case based examples. The educator facilitated the learning by drawing on that experience and making the links to practice. It was very engaging and inclusive although required a lot of skill from the educator. I need to develop that skill and level of confidence. I still feel i need to over prepare for sessions.

This module is also my first experience of IPE as a learner.

The first webinar on this module was my first experience of formal IPE training!
Hi I'm Natalie, an adult nurse that works in community. My current role is to provide training and education to the social care sector within Barnsley. This is difficult as training is not compulsory and skills that a teach is often seen as a nurses job!. Due to covid I was redeployed to do swabbing and support the care home staff and their residents, training was just starting up again via Echo and Teams but now its flu vac session I'm unsure when I will be back full time in my role. A random fact about me I have 12 pets- we rehome hamsters currently have 5, 2 rabbits, 2 guinea pigs, a gecko and a black lab called Jeff, oh and I went in my 14 year old daughters room 3 weeks ago at 9pm-she had been out with friends and found a kitten, That's when 11 became 12.

Hi, I'm Felister,an adult nurse (ITU 10years) and Specialist Community Public Heath Nurse, SCPHN (10years). Since Jan 2020 i have been an adult nursing lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University. My SCPHN role was very much inter professional/multidisciplinary. I taught my first IPE module this March: initially I must confess, I didn't enjoy it!. However, as I have marked the assignments, I realise it must have made sense to the students as they produced good quality pieces of work. I am now teaching onto an inter-professional complexity module fully online and I am hoping to fine tune my facilitator's skills but also get a good grip with IPE theories.
