How many pencils will each student get?”</strong></li><li><strong>Explain that to solve this problem, you must divide, or separate the pencils into equal groups, each with the same number of pencils.</strong></li><li><strong>Display 18 pencils and ask a different student to act as the “leader” and to distribute the pencils among the students.</strong></li><li><strong>Explain that together, you have just solved the division problem.          <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><em>INTRODUCTION TO</em></strong><em> </em><strong><em>DIVISION AS REPEATED SUBTRACTION</em></strong><br><strong>Teacher will get 20 pencils and ask the students - How many times can 4 be taken from 20?</strong></div><div><strong>She will demonstrate the same by taking 4 from 20 and giving it to a child, left with 16 pencils. </strong></div><div><strong>Again taking 4 pencils from 16 and giving to another child left with 12 pencils. She will continue the same till she reaches 0. </strong></div><div><strong>She will ask the class How many children got 4 pencils?</strong></div><div><strong>When she was taking away the pencils -What she was doing with given number (20 pencils)? Ans - Subtracting</strong></div><div><strong>How many times did we subtract?  5 times or 5 children got 4 pencils</strong></div><div><strong>So when we are sharing the same number of things i.e. 4 pencils out of total number of things i.e. 20 pencils again and again till we reach zero is called repeated subtraction. </strong></div><div><strong>“Division is repeated subtraction”</strong></div><div><strong>She will demonstrate the same by showing it on the whiteboard.</strong></div>]]></description>
