         <description><![CDATA[<div>1.&nbsp;<br>-Today NAFTA covers a North American economy with a combined output of US$17.0 trillion.<br>-The NAFTA region is home to 444.1 million people, 33.3 million of whom live in Canada, 304.1 million in the United States, and 106.7 million in Mexico.<br>-English, Spanish, and French are languages widely spoken in the NAFTA countries. However, many other languages are spoken across the continent.<br>-One in five jobs in Canada is in part linked to international trade.<br>-The largest and most diversified economy in the world, the United States is a market economy.<br><br>2. NAFTA has improved wages in Mexico and helped to export more items and products than before.<br><br>3. It made it easy for American and Canadian companies to outsource and provide more jobs and Mexico but had less jobs in their country.<br><br></div>]]></description>

Created 20 years ago to expand trade between the United States, <a href="https://www.thebalance.com/canada-economy-facts-and-outlook-3306344">Canada</a> and <a href="https://www.thebalance.com/mexico-s-economy-facts-opportunites-challenges-3306351">Mexico</a>.<br>B. Purpose was to make these countries more competitive in the global marketplace<br>C.  <a href="https://www.thebalance.com/president-ronald-reagan-s-economic-policies-3305568">President Ronald Reagan</a> conceived of a North American trade agreement to compete with the Treaty of Rome, which later became the <a href="https://www.thebalance.com/what-is-the-european-union-how-it-works-and-history-3306356">European Union</a><br>D. First, it quadrupled trade between <a href="https://www.thebalance.com/canada-economy-facts-and-outlook-3306344">Canada</a>, <a href="https://www.thebalance.com/mexico-s-economy-facts-opportunites-challenges-3306351">Mexico</a>, and the United States. That's because the agreement eliminated <a href="https://www.thebalance.com/tariff-pros-cons-and-examples-3305967">tariffs</a>. Trade increased to $1.14 trillion in 2015.<br>E. It led to the loss of 500,000-750,000 U.S. jobs. Most were in the manufacturing industry in California, New York, Michigan and Texas. Companies in some industries moved to Mexico because labor was cheap. These industries were automotive, textile, computer and electrical appliance.<br><br>2. Wages were not increase in Mexico and the people were exploited.<br><br>3. The workforce were hurt because the manufacturing jobs were outsourced to Mexico.</div>]]></description>
