I am currently a student at South Essex College studying Level 3 General Art and Design.
This project has taken me around 3 months to complete and finalize, making sure that my ideas and thought processes are shown clearly and neatly, as well as being supported by primary and secondary research. 
The theme given was 'Origins' from which I have been working independently, sourcing my own ideas, interpretations, experiments and research. Starting with artefacts and vestiges from my childhood, I discovered that I go on vacations often with my family and its what I relate to and enjoy most. Therefore I looked into escapism and reached out further to Buddhism and Enlightenment.
I then carried out research and discovered that elephants are thought highly of in Buddhism, which inspired part of my final design. I also experimented with media, and discovered pointillism, which is the main technique I used in my final piece. 
Overall, my work consists of an elephant, a Buddha and pointillism, as well as detailed patterns.
I placed a elephants head onto a Buddha's body to link the two together, and then used pointillism and patterns to add detail and make the piece aesthetically pleasing. i chose to use a white ink pen on a black background as I feel that it was unusual and the looks great.

My piece was originally meant to be sized A2, how when completed appeared too large, so I trimmed it down to around a little under size A3.
