Sundara comes home from school one day only to receive a letter with the news that the man she was supposed to marry in Cambodia had died. She is horribly saddened by the news, especially considering that the thought of Chamroeun was the only thing keeping her mind and her heart away from Jonathan. Despite Sundara's attempts to respect her family's wishes and be the "good Cambodian daughter", she rushes to the hospital to see Jonathan after hearing the news of his injury. Staying away from Jonathan was an internal conflict she had struggled with ever since her Aunt and Uncle learned about her sneaking around with him. However, after Jonathan confesses his love to her, she no longer cares to stay away from him. After he quits the football team, she learns how deeply she affected him.
