1 Critically examine conflict theory on education and social mobility
2 Devarius lives in an area with high income inequality. He and his wife are both anesthesiologists and are financially stable, and find it easy to make their house payments, as well as private lessons for their kids in tennis, dance, and piano each month. Devarius' neighbor, Sara, is a single-mother and academic advisor at a university with two young children. They have both lived in the neighborhood for nearly ten years.
Research shows that: (explain why?)
a)Devarius probably took on more debt than Sara.
b)Because both families have been in the neighborhood for almost ten years, they are less likely to struggle with rising housing costs.
c)Sara probably took on more debt to buy a house next to Devarius.
d)Income inequality would not affect Devarius or Sara.

1. Public schools, according to conflict theorists, do not reduce social inequality. Rather, they argue that education promotes and maintains social inequities caused by variations in class, gender, race, and ethnicity. The fulfillment of one’s education is closely linked to their different social class. Poor people are less likely to afford private class for their children , which means they contain relatively low status and opportunities than others.
2.Income inequality does not affect Devarius or Sara. Because their two families have lived in this area of income inequality for a long time, but it does not affect their life, they can still live their own life.

1. Conflict theorists believe that the educational system reinforces and perpetuates social inequalities that arise from differences. Education differs according to class, race, etc., and is a factor that reinforces social inequality. Education reinforces inequality in the larger society. This can be an issue because it means that richer neighbourhoods may have better schools.
2. a) Devarius need to pay for her children's other classes like tennis and piano.
c) Sara is a single mother with two young children, she supports the living expenses of three people by herself, while Devarius can bear the expenses with her husband.

1. Conflict theorists believe that education does not promote social mobility because different classes of people receive different levels of education and students are not on the same starting line. Different classes of people will mean different abilities, and affordability will be a decisive factor in educational attainment, with children who are well off and have a stable and comfortable learning environment receiving a better education.

2. A
Devarius's families are relatively rich, they have stable income and more economic sources. While maintaining a normal life, they can make some investments and earn more money by spending their own money. Sara is a single mother with only one source of income and two children to take care of, she will probably save money for her children's education and so on, and she may not think of anything else.
