I agree that education empower people. In learning to read "Malcolm X writes "I spent two days just riffling uncertainly through the dictionary's pages. I'd never realized so many words existed! I didn't know which words I needed to learn. Finally, just start some kind of action, I began copying". (pg 162). In my slow painstaking, ragged handwriting, I copied into my tablet everything printed on that first page , down to the punctuation marks" (pg.162). I choose these quotes because I feel that they explain and support my position in education. Learning is power and power is knowledge, that can take you far in life and help you communicate and understand other people.

In the essay " Learning to read" by Malcom X . Describes how he learn to read by himself as a homemade education. " I saw that he best thing I could do was to get hod of a dictionary" (page 162)

I agree with education empowering us. It helps us grow in our knowledge and skills that we need to develop in order for us to get good jobs and education other people in our community. When we use our education we uplift our youths and ourselves. Malcolm X stated, " Up until then, I never had been so truly free in my life." pg 162. Here is when we need our education to be able to be free and to not be locked in with the corruption of our own environment. When you use your education you build the confident and skills to take on the world. This is why I truly believe that education is empowering us as well as it gives us power. In the book Rereading America in the essay Learning to Read, written by Malcolm X he stated, " Anyone who has read a great deal can imagine the new world that opened." pg 162 I agree with Malcolm X on this statement because, here if you read the right books and read a lot it helps open up your mind and thinking process of the world. You don't isolate and think one way only.

Yes, I believe education empowers us. Malcolm X explains, in the essay titled Learning to Read, "As I see it today, the ability to read awoke inside me some long dormant craving to be mentally alive. I certainly wasn't seeking any degree, the way college confers a status symbol upon its students. My homemade education gave me with every additional book that I read, a little bit more sensitivity to deafness, dumbness and blindness that was affecting the black race in america."(Rereading America pg.168) Education should not be limited to an educational institution, self-learning will empower you even more when you learn the subjects you are not taught in a public school curriculum.

I agree, that education does and should empower us all. Education it self should empower us all to want to grow as an individual. Whats better than challenging yourself to move up in a world that only wants to hold people like myself back. In the words of Malcolm X " You will never catch me with a free fifteen minutes in which I'm not studying something i feel might be able to help the black man." There is always something new and exciting to learn but be careful of the knowledge you receive.

In the essay "From Social Class And The Hidden Curriculum Of Work", according to "In the executive elite school, work is developing one's analytical intellectual powers. Children are continually asked to reason through a problem, to produce intellectual product that are both logically sound and of top academic quality."(Pg 148) top level schools that students are helped to achieve to excel are equipped with good education to make students prepared for life. Education empowers everyone. For example, critical thinking is a huge part of education, which trains students to think about how to improve their potential career.

I don't think that education empower us. I think it is great to read and learn about different life objects and World scientific discovery, so you, as well educated person can analyze and come up with your opinion with supportive facts. Educational system works like a brain wash, encouraging us to do well in classes. But how does it influence us in terms of personal growth? To me personal I don't understand why some people need to go to school. Self education and work on your own could be way more beneficial. But for some people it is better to work under someone's supervision. Each individual person should choose what path to take for self growth. I guess what I am trying to say is that education is a great thing, but it depends on person's talent, ability to lean and self motivation. "These children's opinion are important - it's important that they learn to reason things through" (Rose 149). I like this quote because that school's system is focused on children's opinion and knowledge. They can express their thoughts and ideas. So this school is not trying to brain wash students, instead encourage them to think and develop their ideas.

In the essay "Still separate, Still Unequal", Johnathan Kozol expresses how public school systems are segregated and they are not allowing students to have equal education opportunities. His argument is that students are being subjected to unequal education due to their demographics. Kozol purpose in writing this article is to show that segregation is schools still exist even though it has been a decade since the Brown v Board of education. In supporting his argument Kozol also visits various of public school that have a majority of minority students have poor curriculum and poor schools buildings. All of these supporting details help make the argument that public schools are subjected to less funding to teach the students and provide a nice environment. According to Kozol,"Its not fair that other kids have a garden and new things. but we don't have that".(175). Basically he is saying that these students are provided with less resources due the area of their schools and they are not being funded to excel.

I believe education empowers people because it motivates us to want to keep going in life. Meaning with an education you can get a better job. By better job I mean with great benefits, great retirement plan and also a great pay. Having money to support yourself and your family. This leads back to Essay#1, "what makes families happy in America?" I put employment as one of my key points. Employment comes from education. The higher your education is the better your job can be. Also the better your job is the more money you will make. Money is the key to keep you motivated. In the essay "Looking for Work" by Gary Soto, it explains how a little boy is motivated and wanted to look for work. "I decided to become wealthy, and right away!" That shows that he wanted money because he did not like his lifestyle.

The system isn't set up to give people of color the same opportunity as the white people. Education has been divided into classes based on your color and income. I have never felt like i was getting a good education and if i did want one, i would have to teach myself. Malcolm X said "I happened to stumble upon starting to acquire some kind of a homemade education."(pg.161) Back in the days they kept African Americans away from learning and it makes all the sense in the world, why would you teach someone something when you feel like they will learn it and do better than you. Malcolm X had to teach himself the truth, what we are being taught are lies and cover ups to hide the truth.

I Don't believe that education empowers us. I believe that education is still being limited to all people of color. in order to change this broken school system we have to unlearn the traditional ways of it's original origins. According to the essay "Still separate, still unequal" by Jonathan Kozol gives us readers insight on his view of a education system that is still broken. Here is a quote that Jonathan Kozol stated, "And some who are perhaps most realistic do not even dare to ask for, or except, complete equality, which seems beyond the realm of probability for many years to come, but look instead for only used today-by of means"- "adequacy" (page. 174 -mid section of fourth paragraph)

I believe that education does empower us. I do not have my book or notes with me so I will describe how education is empowering to me. I began my English class very unfamiliar to technology not knowing how to use proper words and punctuation's in my writing. I've learned what an essay is , how to use and analyse material I read, and also use critical thinking to make connections. I'm reading and learning about the various kinds of schools throughout our country. As Malcolm X declares, 'The future belongs to those who want it'.(qtd. X Malcolm) This quote is important to me because I not only want to learn my mind is ready to learn. Although this class is extremely challenging, I enjoy reading Nickel and Dime'd.

Everyone deserves an equal education. Kozol describes, in the essay Still Seperate, Still Unequal,"As racial isolation deepens and the inequalities of education finance remain unabated and take on new and more innovative forms, the principals of many inner-city schools are making choices that few principals in public schools that serve white children in the mainstream of the nation ever need to contemplate." This proves that inequality in the education system exists.

I think that education powers me right now in life being 22 living in 2018.Having an higher education means to me money increase.I say that because i work in position that is looked as being lower i would like to work myself up becoming something better and fulfilling my goals that i set and finish. By showing my son that i went back to school to get educated to become something that would be a foundation and a interspersion and motivation. With school thinking about segregation i would like for my child to have the opportunity to have the best education."its not fair that other kids have a garden and new things. But we don't have that,"said Elizabeth(175) kozol Still separate ,still unequal . All children should have a school that have everything else others schools have and not have it based on class.
