The way that the world begins to cooperate in order to understand and follow the existence of the Carls, humans have found something that they can agree on.
The fact that they are working together, is the reason to April's new fame and sudden change of lifestyle. Another example where social media is a big theme, is when the Carl hand saves her, on p. 226, where the first thing she thinks about, is to film it, so she can post it on social media so everyone can see. The book shows how social media can take over your life and how it can come before everything else, even your own safety. April gets famous on Youtube and is connecting with her fans on Twitter by posting a lot of things from her daily life. She also uses Facebook to live streaming and is participating in a lot of interviews in television. So a lot of things are based on social media, and all the gossip and the sequences are on social media. All the people are obsessed with social media. 

All the people are trying to get as much attention as possible and they are doing anything to ruin or help April. Maya describes that really well in this quotation on page 40:  "People are going to be looking for you, to follow you or to argue with you or just to see what you are up to. And when they find that you aren't there, some small percentage of them are going to just make a fake account."

Throughout the story April develops from an unknown girl who works only to get her paycheque, to someone famous who many people look up to. Her fame is triggered by the Carl, and thereby her development is also triggered by the Carls appearing. Another big development of hers was her attitude to fame and social media. On the plane to LA (p. 45) April says that: “I was virtually a social media celebrity now, and so I had to let the entire world know every time I experienced any inconvenience.”

But when April gets famous trough the social media, things change. Suddenly she is addicted to the social media and she feels like she has a responsibility to update her fans and communicate with them. “My phone felt like it weighed ten pounds in my hands, and I almost fell asleep, but then I realized I’d been neglecting Facebook.”. This is seen in how the main character, April May, goes from barely using Social Media, to being obsessed with it. This change happens because she becomes famous, and therefor people wish to be able to learn more about her, so she has to get a presence om social media. This ends up being such a big part of her life, that she could easily spend whole days, just sitting on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and so on, just posting, commentating and answering stuff.

I choose this quotation because its here they start to work together, and the information is not only shared for som few people. “But now people are out in the city solving these puzzles. There’s already a wiki and a subreddit and a bunch of semi private chat rooms.”.

The Carls are there to observe how people work together and how humanity works. How humans work together to solve this mystery is big part of the book's plot, story and concept behind it. There is both good and bad times, due to how humans work together.
Like in this quote, it is nice to see som many people doing a progress togehter, but there is also times where the population stand up against eachohter.

Social media is central in the book, 'An Absolutely Remarkable Thing'. Throughout the story, it is utilized in several different ways. A good example of this is spreading awarness of the Carls in the community. Social media on the other hand, also has alot of consequences, especially when paired with excessive fame. In the quote above, we get a sense of how April May's ''girlfriend'' is feeling about the whole situation that's going on at this moment. This choice of words in the above quote indicates that Maya is sick of the fact, April is prioritizing fame over Maya herself. April’s fame develops very fast, as the video she and Andy posted on the internet, goes viral. In the beginning, April doesn’t like the attention. She says: "I feel like I´m being asked to be something I´m not (p. 47 ll. 9-10). But as she gets more used to the fame, she starts liking the idea that people think her opinion matters. In the end, when things start to slow down, April realizes that she has become addicted to the fame. She says: "I was addicted to the attention and to the outrage and to the rush of being involved in something so huge, but more than any of that I was just addicted" (p. 288 ll. 7-9). Social media almost gives a chain reaction to the two other themes of the book. It first plays a big role when sharing the video of Hollywood Carls and leads to the fame of April May which later leads people coming together to come together and explore the carls in their area. Although the fame leads to something great for April, the book also shows a negative side of social media like in the quote: "all this frustration I have turned outward onto the Defenders. I spend most of my waking time reading their threads, countering their arguments making videos, and fighting them on social media" (p. 205). Not even some evil, because people stand together up to the evil with good. April needs help a few times through the book where a lot of people helps her. "After April made her plea, citizens all over the world rushed their Carls" (Page 331 l. 10-11). It shows that people help other there is in need of help. In the start it is not really a thing, but as April gets more and more into this Carl stuff, she also gets very famous very quick. It starts with being only people in the united states that knows of her, but as the story evolves, April is suddenly known all over the world. It has big consequences for April, she says herself: "i´m rich and famous, and suddenly i feel like i have no friends"(page 205). She's not saying that she doesn't have any friends, but just that she feels like it. She starts pushing people away and the idea of herself as an individual, and the impact she has on others, becomes extremely important to her, more important than anything else. April also puts fame into different categories, because as she says herself: "i've had the opportunity to do more thinking about fame than most people". This shows that it's something that interests April a lot. Though throughout the book you don´t get the feeling that April started all this because she wanted to get famous, she started it because the thing about the Carls interested her. "I didn't feel like the woman i'd seen on the news clips. There are at least sixty Carls, photos of Carls are popping up everywhere from Bejing to Buenos Aires." (p.20). Because of that she begins to understand that Carl was not just some generic statue, and because of that she started to give some
