Wildfire Impacts on Bus Routes

Due to ongoing wildfires in the region, several bus routes are experiencing detours and delays. Additionally, fare collection has been suspended until further notice. 

Below is a list of current service impacts:

• Route 9: Is restored with modified service beginning on Tuesday, January 21. Buses will operate from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily, with service every 30 minuets. Bus stops north of San Vicente Blvd. will not be served. Express trips will remain suspended until further notice. 

• Route 14: Service suspended north of Montana Ave. 

Big Blue Bus is currently operating regular service on all other routes.

Uber:

To redeem the discount, riders must apply the promo code "WILDFIRE25" in the Wallet section of their Uber app prior to requesting the ride to designated locations.

Wildfire victims now qualify for the Low Income Fare is Easy program, also known as LIFE, which offers 90 days of unlimited free Metro rides, followed by 20 free rides per month. It’s typically available for people who receive food stamps, Medi-Cal or other low-income assistance programs. If you've been affected by the fires, you have until June to sign up.

  following emergencies and disasters

• The Red Cross, perhaps the most well-known, is providing both shelter and emotional support for evacuees. You can visit RedCross.org, call 1-800-RED-CROSS, or text REDCROSS to 90999 to make an automatic $10 donation.

• The United Way of Greater Los Angeles is accepting donations to its Disaster Relief Fund to help those affected by the Southern California fires. They're partnering with United Way of Ventura County.

• The Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation is running a campaign to provide critical support for LAFD firefighters as they work tirelessly to save lives and protect property during these devastating wildfires. Donations to this campaign will directly help equip firefighters with essential tools and supplies, including emergency fire shelters, hydration backpacks, and wildland brush tools.

• The Salvation Army Ventura Corps wildfire relief fund is also accepting donations to go toward California wildfire relief.

• The California Fire Foundation is a nonprofit that is distributing emergency funds to fire victims through its SAVE program. That includes firefighters distributing prepaid credit cards to help victims in the immediate aftermath of the fire.

  
  

• The Entertainment Industry Foundation is raising money through its Fire Relief Fund to help those affected.

• Direct Relief

  Direct Relief is a wildfire response organization based in California. They provide N-95 masks, medication, and more resources for healthcare agencies and first responders. Their California Wildfire page includes a fire tracker and links for donating.

  
  

• World Central Kitchen

  World Central Kitchen is a global organization delivering meals to people in disaster areas. They are currently operating in Southern California to serve free, hot meals to those affected by the wildfires. Find meal locations and donation links on the WCK website’s California Fires page.

• The Humane Society of Ventura County is accepting animals evacuating from the Hill and Woolsey fires, and they're also looking for support. You can donate to the organization here or purchase needed items through their Amazon Wish List here.

• The Los Angeles County Animal Care Foundation They're accepting donations through the Noah's Legacy Fund.

  
  

• The Pasadena Humane Society has taken in over 300 animals due to evacuations and have staff and volunteers working nonstop to help with their care. We are starting to see many animals coming in with burns and injuries. These animals are being treated in our ICU. We are providing them with pain medications, wound care, fluid, and oxygen as needed. Our biggest need right now is for monetary donations to help provide emergency resources to animals affected by the wildfires.

Canine Rescue Club

Offer temporary foster care for dogs displaced by the fires. You can apply to temporarily house an affected dog by filling out an online form to assist the Canine Rescue Club,  a network of caregivers who foster dogs awaiting their forever home.

If you lost your job or can’t work because of a disaster, you may qualify for Unemployment Insurance, Disability Insurance (DI), or Paid Family Leave (PFL) benefits.

If the president of the United States declares a disaster, Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is now available for workers and self-employed people who do not qualify for regular unemployment benefits.DUA benefits apply to losses beginning the week of January 12, 2025.

Cleo’s Critter Care is working with Pasadena and Altadena organizations and residents to check on, feed, and relocate animals in Eaton Fire evacuation areas.

Viva Rescue

L.A. city hotline

On Wednesday, officials announced a hotline for pet owners to call for help in reconnecting with their animals. That number is (213) 270-8155.

• Watch for and report any suspicious activity. Federal agencies such as FEMA and the SBA will never charge individuals for disaster assistance. 

• Protect your identity and stay informed. Do not offer any personal information unless you are speaking with a verified federal, state, or local official. 

• Stay tuned to trusted local media sources for updates on disaster fraud and scams.

• Share information from trusted sources and discourage others from sharing information from unverified sources. 

Individuals can report suspected fraud or scams to the FEMA Investigations and Inspections Division by calling 1-866-223-0814 or emailing StopFEMAFraud@fema.dhs.gov. 

Individuals can also file complaints of fraud, waste, or abuse with the U.S. Department of Justice National Center for Disaster Fraud’s (NCDF) Disaster Complaint Form. 

Individuals who suspect they may be victims of identity theft should check in with local law enforcement and visit IdentityTheft.gov to report and recover from identity theft.

Who Can Apply

You may be eligible if you are a Los Angeles county resident (homeowner or tenant) who has been physically displaced due to the 2025 Los Angeles County Eaton and Palisades fire and windstorm events and meet any of the following criteria:

• Your primary residence was completely destroyed by the 2025 Los Angeles County Eaton and Palisades fire and windstorm events.

• Your primary residence is within the impacted zones for the 2025 Los Angeles County Eaton and Palisades fire and windstorm events and was partially destroyed or severely damaged as a result thereof, making it uninhabitable.

• Your household experienced a death related to the 2025 Los Angeles County Eaton and Palisades fire and windstorm events.

Priority will be given to the most impacted households based on need, including insurance status, social and economic vulnerability, loss of life, health conditions, and other risk factors.

Grant Amounts

Eligible households* can receive grants in the amount of $6,000, $12,000, or $18,000 depending on household size and composition.

• Household of Two (2) or less ($6,000)
  A household consisting of one (1) or two (2) members, including individuals living alone or couples without dependents.

• Household of Three (3) or More ($12,000)
  Households with at least three (3) people, where at least one (1) person is a dependent minor or a dependent adult.

• Multigenerational Household ($18,000)
  Households with at least four (4) people that include dependent minors and/or dependent adults and consist of at least three (3) separate generations.

*This Program defines a household as “All the people who occupy a housing unit (such as a house or apartment) as their usual place of residence.”

Please note: Only one grant will be awarded to each address. The maximum amount of relief funds an affected address can receive from this Program is $18,000.
