When you do one thing, it always leads to another. 
The mouse asks the boy a series of questions all resulting from the generous act of the boy giving him a cookie. By the books completion, the plot comes full circle suggesting that the mouse will want yet another cookie and repeat the cycle again. Desires and wants are what fuels our everyday lives.
