In response, the Truman Doctrine was issued by President Harry pledging that United states will stop the spread of communism in Greece by their financial aid.Greece got the victory leading to their membership with NATO in 1952.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>JFK plan to train a group of Cuban exiles living in America for an invasion of their homeland. The goal of the invasion was to overthrow Castro and the establishment of a non-communist government. The Cuban government soon found out but JFK still went according to plan. The US government believed that the Cuban troops would not be stationed in a swampy location at night but they were wrong. The disaster of the Bay of Pigs had a lasting impact on JFK. Cuba and Soviet Union soon were allies, Soviet station nuclear weapons on Cuba.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>American spy planes flying over Cuba saw the missiles placed by the Soviet Union. JFK decided to place a naval blockade on Cuba to prevent further Soviet shipments of missiles. JFK announced that the U.S. forces would seize "offensive weapons and associated material." International community feared that either side might drop a nuclear bomb. The Soviet Union and  the U.S. soon came to an agreement, the missiles in Cuba would be removed and JFK would withdraw the missiles in Turkey. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Soviet leader Joseph Stalin closed all railroads into Berlin to remove western powers from the city, Depriving people of food oil etc called the Berlin Blockage.President Truman responded with the Berlin Airlift sending food fuel and other resources by air everyday for over a year till the soviets called off the blockade in 1949.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Communist North Vietnam was controlled by the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China. Non-communist South Vietnam was controlled by the U.S. U.S officials decided to apply the policy of containment to prevent communist from overrunning South Vietnam.  From 1954 to 1974 America sent over 2 million troops and spent billions of dollar to fight North Vietnam. The aggressive approach was driven by the domino theory. America believed that if Vietnam fell under communism so would the surrounding countries.</p>]]></description>

The Berlin wall was destroyed, citizens of GDR were free to cross the country's border and travel anywhere they wanted. East and West Berlin flocked to the wall as a symbol of decades of Cold War tension. Berlin was United for the first time since 1945. The reunification of East and West was made official on Oct 3, 1990. </p>]]></description>
