Early childhood educators may foster on these interests and plan a variety of experiences with social studies in mind, cultivating and extending young children’s diverse skills and abilities to form and voice opinions, identify and solve problems, negotiate roles, perceive diversity and inequality, and recognize the consequences of their decisions and behaviors on others.

Example: Sometimes at Seasons of Wonder we sing the Good Morning song in Spanish. One time teacher Maria whose from Greece sang the song in Greek. The children had fun with that.

Social studies is a foundation for many strands of learning, in early childhood education children are moving from self-awareness to other awareness. Social studies is the teaching of self and society; such as culture, diversity, relationships, social roles, and occupations. 

Social studies is learning to become a preschool community member by learning skills for democratic participation, responsible conduct, fairness, respect for others, and conflict resolution. 

Social studies is learning sense of time or history: understanding past events, planning future events, personal history, and historical changes in the world and people.

Social studies is learning about places, such as familiar locations, caring for the natural world, and understanding the physical world. Social studies is learning about exchanging money for a good in the marketplace.

Social studies is the studying of society, environment, people, social systems, social concepts, community rules, and the value of diversity.

However after reading the chapter, I now know that social studies means different things because it covers so much about underrating diversity, culture, social concepts, simple economics, geography, ecology, and learning about rules.
