         <title>How were African Americans affected by the Great Depression?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Great Depression is said to be the "worst economic downtown in the industrialized world", according to the History Channel. Though the Great Depression affected everyone,  African Americans were hit the hardest. During these times, they were still subjects to racism and discrimination. The African Americans would have to face the hardships of their race for decades.<br>Before the Great Depression, African Americans had a hard time finding a job because the color of their skin. Once the Great Depression started, their employers would instantly fire them or give them little to no pay; they were said to be "last hired, first fired". According to the Library of Congress, the African American unemployment rate climbed up to about 50 percent during 1932. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Back in the 1930s, African Americans were segregated from the rest of the population. Though they were not physically separated from the Americans, they had less rights than American citizens. Like women, the African Americans could not vote or own land; they had little to no rights according to the Library of Congress.<br>African Americans were discriminated in many ways. There were also laws to separate the races called the Jim Crow Laws. There were no slaves, but they were treated as them.   <br><br></div>]]></description>

Many Americans would hang the African Americans to make more space for the unemployed whites.
