Grow Rock Candy Crystals

Concept: How crystals form from a supersaturated solution.

As you mix baking soda and vinegar the bubbles release carbon dioxide gas and is not a clearing solution because it only carbon dioxide gas.

Goal: Build a run that would give the marble enough energy, force & speed to collide and knock down the row of dominoes

Process: Building the track & experimenting with height and steepness until I had success with my goal

Materials: Cardboard, glue & wood

First, I poured some water into the empty bottle. Next , I pour oil in the empty bottle . The water and oil seperate because oil is less dense than water. Then, I picked yellow food color and put some drops in the empty bottle. Last, I used 2 half pieces of Alka Seltizer and dropped them into the empty bottle.

Volcanic Eruption

Hi I’m in Mrs Jones class. I created a volcano eruption using model clay, small plastic empty water bottle, baking soda, white vinegar, and rocks and grass from my yard. I poured baking soda in bottom of the bottle. I then poured the vinegar into the bottle. The reaction of the baking soda and the vinegar causes the liquid to rise fast causing the “eruption”.

Without the drops, the debris just floats around. With the drops, it quickly moves together like it’s being herded.

This happens because the drops change the surface tension, which is like an invisible skin on top of the water. That skin moves the floating pieces all in one direction.

Result: Surface Magic makes cleaning the pool easier by gathering all the debris in one spot.
