         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>I chose this topic because I coach a basketball team and it will be interesting for me to know how I will have the ability to impact my team’s self esteem and their abiity to perform and learn new things which will overall help their sporting performance. The outcomes may also impact the broader community.</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Why is it an important topic to study? Why would it be beneficial for science?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>It is an important topic to study because a lot of the studies about the effect of praise that I have read have been about academic performance.&nbsp; I have not seen any articles or further research on sporting performance. &nbsp; I would like to broaden the scientific outcomes by testing if the idea that praise can increase a performance in sport and not just academia.&nbsp; Thereby extending from a more established esearched question into a new area.&nbsp;</div><div><br>This is beneficial for science because it is taking existing experiments into a new field and therfore you have more opportunities to develop new research methods. There may be new outcomes because there are new questions being asked. Because of this enquiry I am helping and growing the scientific community.&nbsp;</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>My independent variable would be the team geting&nbsp; praise vs the team non receiveing praise. The team that doesn’t receive praise gets neutral comments only.&nbsp; Praise is considered Great shot!&nbsp; Keep going! That was perfect!&nbsp; You guys are doing a really good job!&nbsp; The praise will be delivered also through smiling, being enthusiastic, being nice, body language is inclusive and involved and tone is excited and happy.&nbsp;</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

It could be measured in many ways:&nbsp; dribbling the ball more and further, doing better passes,&nbsp; the number of points scored per game, average assists, number of passes, confidence in dribbling and fitness.</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

This age group is optimal because that is when they can take in new info, learn quickly and can be influenced by people around them. It is also reversible.</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>What sampling method do you think would be most suitable for your target population? </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Although I could use any of the sampling methods I chose to do the convenience sampling method. It is easiest for me because I already have a group of students available.&nbsp;</div><div><br>As a team this target audience already has a starting point or benchmark to measure their progress against. For example you may know what their abilities were before the experinment and could compare.&nbsp;</div><div><br>I would conduct convenience sampling on my basketball team members and other teams that would like to get involved.&nbsp; &nbsp;<br><br>** remember to say why the other sampling methods would not work!</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>How would you ensure this experiment adheres to ethical guidelines? </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>The participants would be invited to participate and would not be forced or pressured into participating. They will not be ostrasized from the team if they do not and can drop out at any time. &nbsp;</div><div><br>Given the target audience is under 18 they would need parental consent in order to participate - the parents would know what the experiment’s goals are.&nbsp;</div><div><br>There would be a debrief at the end - after you had collected the data you would tell the participants what was happening.&nbsp; You would protect the individual outcomes and not share individual results with them or anyone else. Results are confidential. In the debrief you would check that the participants were all in the same if not better headspace than when they started the experiment.&nbsp; I would run a quick survey on how they are feeling before and after participation.</div><div><br>Would make sure that those that did not receive praise were not impacted negatively. Offer support if needed.<br><br>** What about protection from harm? Or protection from stress? By not praising you may be doing some hardcore damage.. </div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>
