They believe in the fundamental right of each individual, throughout the world, to manage his or her fertility, regardless of the individual's income, marital status, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, national origin, or residence. They value diversity, privacy, education, safety, support, and reproductive knowledge/understanding. But as of recent, house representative Paul Ryan has pledged to defund this organization. But why? How could something that stands for all the right reasons be looked at so negatively and with so much disdain? GOP conservatives strongly condemn abortion, a service that planned parenthood provides, and are using that along with the false allegation that planned parenthood "illegally trafficked unborn fetuses" as basis for the defunding. But what they fail to realize is how much more planned parenthood offers than just abortions- they provide mammograms and contraceptives to over 2.7 million women throughout the United States. It is completely illogical to defund a program because they disagree with 3 percent of its services, especially since no taxpayer money is going to abortion procedures. The other 97 percent of services offered are important and highly needed services that Planned Parenthood makes so affordable and available thanks to the funding. He's 45 now, but definitely does not look it, and until recent did not act it either. The reason that he inspires me so much is because of his determination and hopefulness. Despite some of the curveballs life has thrown at him, he pursues his career as a director.
