The whiteboard is a canvas that allows me to create, grow & nurture my inner thoughts and feelings. Whatever that is written or illustrated on the board will be shown to others. Hence, it reminds me to be truthful, kind and sincere when leading & developing others. 

Being clear, shiny and white, the whiteboard also reminds me to always be open-minded, non-judgmental, seek clarification and be willing to share and learn from others. When used with the multi-colored markers - the different talents and ideas from my team - it makes my leadership journey a colorful and meaningful one!

I think a flower reminds me of leadership. There can be many seeds in the world but only a few plants can bear flowers. All plants need air, food and water to survive but a few plants which get the same things can bear flowers. I think being leader means bringing out your inner potential. Personally, I had a lot of experiences with mountains and perhaps that is the reason why I can relate to it when it comes to leadership.

From far, the view of a mountain is majestic. How it stood upright and tall, how it embraces the different weather/ season and how it took all these changes in its own stride. Yet, if you’ve ever climbed any mountains before, you’d agree with me… it’s the start of all struggles once you step foot on it.

Just like the journey of leadership, it encompassed a road filled with excitement, challenges, sweat, joy and sometimes… even tears in it. Standing at different height of a mountain gives us an opportunity to view things at a different level. At the ground level, you might discover rubbish and trash. You might hear a lot of noises. But as you progress upwards, you’ll realized all these fade away as you grow. And before you know it, the summit grants you the most beautiful scenery ever - just like the sweet success of leading well!

Like I’ve always remind myself… enjoy the journey and embrace all that I can in the process of reaching the summit. Ultimately, it’s that view, that sense of satisfaction of doing the right things that I work hard for.
