Genre #1 of my multigenre project is “A Look Into Their Phones,” a collection of screenshots of playlists that I created based on events that took place in Romeo and Juliet. I decided to focus on my own interpretation of the play and how the characters may have been feeling, presenting my reading in the form of playlists. The two playlists consist of five songs that represent how both Romeo and Juliet were feeling in the five acts, or at least my interpretation of how they could have been feeling. I chose this genre because music is an integral part of a teenager’s identity. Almost universally, young
people (and even adults) would say that the music they listen to helps them express their
feelings, cope, or just have fun. Additionally, the songs that I chose were all related to love and heartbreak. This choice was intentional because it represents arguably the most visible and popular topic in Romeo and Juliet: young love.

This paper is a collection of genres that expand upon, reimagine, or challenge parts of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. I wanted each of these genres to analyze what it means to be in love and how it is worth fighting for until the very end. Since the genres are not directly related to each other, they could be also read as separate entries. They are kind of organized display the theme of young love in a modern light.
