Looking at chapter 6, we did a muscle relaxation exercise (this was done before an actor starts looking at the character), i learned from exercise that going into a character can only be achieved proper with a clear mind and a relaxed body

Our introduction lesson into Artaud was a memorable one, we were lead into the theatre, believing that we were going to relax but instead we was tricked. It started out bright with peaceful music and then turned dark with horror like music as to imitate something from a nightmare. This was an introduction and exercise into Artaud's theatre of cruelty. The exercise was designed to play on our emotions and then later toy with our minds, hence leading us into a false sense of security with the brightly lit room and peaceful music which then turned nightmare-like. I learned that Artaud's theatre of cruelty can be a very rewarding style of acting for the creative thought inputed, it personally is one of my preferred styles as it opens up a lot of ideas for creativity

Although he avoids and tries to break up arguments, Eddie mainly acts as a catalyst for the already unstable Maddie. For example the birthday scene, Eddie and Rudie reminisced about a happy memory, that didnt include Maddie, which makes her to act out as she wasn't the centre of attention

Riddled with guilt over the death of her husband, the mother is a heavy drinker. This amount of alcohol consumption has lead to multiple occasions where she has abused Maddie in different ways, as she intationally blames Maddie for the death of her husband. However this is not the case for her son, Rudie. Mother treats Rudie in an entirely different light to how she treats Maddie, for example the second scene Maddie is shouting at Rudie, after Mother sees this she throws a bottle at her, drags her offstage and hits her in front of the audience but then immediately run back up to Rudie to comfort him and then sings him a luaby

When Maddie and Rudie were still infants, the father had made an attempt to end Maddie's life , this guilt was too strong for him to cope with, so he left a suicide note for his wife and killed himself. His death is the reason for Mother's excessive drinking and babing of Rudie, Maddie's schizophrenia and nymphomania, Rudie's fragile form and split personality disorder

The metaphorical cage is a term only mentioned a few times during our performance. Although its not spoken of much , it holds a great important to Rudie/Rodrick. For example the last scene, Rodrick says to Rudie, "you caged me up like a dog", whilst he is trapped under the table. This is implies the table acts as a cage for Rodrick in his split personality disorder, it can also be seen as a wall to Rudie/Rodrick's split personality disorder. An example of a break in Rudie/Rodrick's split personality disorder is during the first scene where Rudie and Rodrick slam the table down

During the rehearsals of our performance , I have felt like mine and Connor's character always seemed like two different people instead of the same character. Therefore I have suggested that me and Connor perform in unison more, so we changed certain scenes. For example the first scene, we had planned to only have Connor slam the table, but it works more effictively, physically and visually, as now the table is seen being lifted off the ground to represent a strong hit againist the split personality disorder
