É interessante observar que a Mata dos Cocais representa também a transição entre o ambiente semiárido da sub-região do Agreste nordestino e a região Norte, que possui clima úmido, ou seja, ela está entre dois ambientes totalmente diferentes. Por esse motivo, ela nomeia outra sub-região do Nordeste, que nós chamamos de Meio- Norte.

A fauna e a flora da Mata dos Cocais são bastante diversificadas, embora a floresta apresente uma aparência homogênea, isto é, uma paisagem semelhante em suas diferentes partes. As principais espécies de plantas são o babaçu, que é o mais abundante na região, a carnaúba, o buriti e muitas outras. Já entre as espécies de animais, há espécies comuns ao Cerrado, à Floresta Amazônia e à Caatinga, mas também existem algumas exclusivas da região. Em geral, podemos citar os seguintes animais: lobo-guará, onça-parda, jaguatirica, urutau, cachorro-do-mato, veado-catingueiro e muitos outros.

The Mata dos cocais is a vegetation present in Brazilian territory considered as a transition strip, that is, an area where two large plant domains meet. In this case, it is found in the transition zone between the Caatinga, located in the Northeast, and the Amazonia, in the North region. Mata dos Cocais is distributed across the states of Ceará, Maranhão, Piauí and Tocantins.

It is interesting to note that Mata dos Cocais also represents the transition between the semi-arid environment of the northeastern Agreste sub-region and the North region, which has a humid climate, that is, it is between two totally different environments! For this reason, it names another sub-region of the Northeast, which we call the middle North.

The fauna and flora of Mata dos Cocais are quite diverse, although the forest presents a homogeneous appearance, that is, a similar landscape in its different parts. The main plant species are babaçu, which is the most abundant in the region, carnauba, buriti and many others. Among the animal species, there are species common to the Cerrado, the Amazon Forest and the Caatinga, but there are also some that are exclusive to the region. In general, we can mention the following animals: maned wolf, puma, ocelot, urutau, wild dog, brocket deer and many others.
