The book even jokingly pokes fun at itself for including these improbable moments or occurrences "However it does not go on to say that with space being the mind boggling size it is the chance of getting picked up by another ship within those 30 seconds are two to the power of two hundred" "The fact that 29 seconds later Ford and Arthur were rescued". This shows the absurdity of the written events and that the book was written with this in mind.

It's a very loosely interpretable poem. So in other words point of view matters. In my case i just see it as random mildly meaningful lines.
