Emily was always very bold throughout the story For example when she was with the druggist. You can tell that the druggist was shocked by the bold attitude Miss Emily had towards him. Emily was also bold when she went for her taxes, almost as if they didn't scare her or she didn't care

(hailey)

The story "A Rose for Emily" speaks about how her relationship with her father when she was growing up before he had passed. The relationship she had with her dad was strict, oppressive, and controlling. He liked to keep the boys away from her and liked to her away from the boys. In the short story, it states "We remembered all the young men her father has driven away" (Paragraph 28). This is a good example of how he was strict and how her relationship with her father was very oppressive and controlling.

Miss Emily was not hugely liked amongst the females in the town. When Miss Emily first passed away the women and men visited her house however the men were there out of respect and the women had only gone so they could see the inside of Miss. Emily's house. The women were also nosy and very much liked to gossip but still dared to pretend to be Miss Emily's friend. In the short story, it says "A few ladies had the temerity to call, but were not received" (Paragraph 15) This quote shows how the women tried to act as Miss Emily's friends but were not considering that Miss Emily never even gave them the time of day to respond or call them back.

Miss Emily was a powerful woman, she was favored by the men more than the women. At the story's beginning, we hear about how Colonel Sartoris had lied to Miss Emily and secretly gave her money as a gift while letting her believe it was the town paying back her dad's money he had given to them. She then was living tax-free in her house thank you to Colonel. However, 10 years after Colonel Sartoris's death the new people in charge of the town began to come after Miss Emily for tax money. In the short story, it is stated "So she vanquished them, horse and foot, just as she had vanquished their fathers thirty years before about the smell" (Paragraph 15). Miss Emily vanquished the town's new mayors and aldermen when they came trying to get Miss Emily to start paying taxes because the arrangement, she had with Colonel Sartoris created some little dissatisfaction.
