What insights did the poetry of Langston Hughes offer about the African-American community in Harlem? In Langston Hughes poetry, he offered a very descriptive insight into the life of African-Americans in Harlem. He showed that even though they were treated poorly, most of them remained hopeful.

How does art reflect the community from which it comes? Art such as poetry and music allows us to learn more about their experiences through the perspectives of these artists.

What connections can you make between some of Hughes' poems? After reading Hughes' poems, I can connect the main claim and tone. A majority of his poems is about having hope and trusting that things will finally change. Another connection within his poems is him describing the feeling and reality of those who experienced these awful times.

How does Hughes' poems connect to other works we've read? His poems connect to TTTC because it was about staying hopeful and finding yourself, and staying true to it,within stressful times.

How does Hughes' poetry connect to our world today?Hughes' poetry connects to our world today as our rights on be threatened by those in our government and those in other countries, such as China, are being held with no rights similar to what the blacks had experienced.

Auschwitz and After connects to COADF with the global issue of human rights vs. political power. In A&A people were thrown into concentration camps with no regard to human rights and received inhuman treatment. In COADF, someone was killed in order to keep their high status in society.

Auschwitz connects to today's world because there are people within our government who are mistreating and taking the rights away from the people.

Linda Krumholz claims (in "The Ghosts of Slavery: Historical Recovery in Toni Morrison’s Beloved") that finding a voice for the thoughts and experiences of women is central to the "healing," historical recovery theme and structure of the book. According to Krumholz, Morrison’s novel "adapts techniques from modernist novels, such as the fragmentation of the plot and shifting narrative voice, to compel the reader to actively construct an interpretive framework" (109). How does the novel specifically address issues of gender, writing and power? It relates to beloved as both feared those in authority. Beloved feared the law and the slave catchers, while marji feared the government and their abuse of power.

it also related to TTTC because those in society pushed the governments ideas of conformity and in TTTC the O'Brien felt pressured by societal standards.
