The problem is a nuclear reactor failing and a pair of scientists trying to fix it
- Element of tension because the scientists are working with their lives at stake
- Characters respond differently to the situation in interesting ways
- Focus on characters and dialogue to have theme of psychological distress

A group of teenagers find an abandoned spaceship in the middle of the desert and try to get it to work
- I like the setting it seems just fun to write
- I could probably add a horror twist at the end. Start by having one of the characters pose a question that alludes to the twist.
- The problem is... why would anybody just leave a spaceship abandoned out here?

A small group of cave researchers is trapped due to a cave-in and slowly realize they are not alone in the darkness
- Setting of a cave allows for suspense and makes it creepy
- A horror aspect is just fun and I am reminded of Lovecraft's "The Beast in the Cave"

    1. The film is about a group of teenagers that find a spaceship abandoned in the middle of the desert and go inside to investigate.
  • Who is your audience (what type of people would go to this film? Be specific!)
    1. The audience is probably going to be teenage/adult men just because of the nature of it being sci-fi. I want it to be people who like suspense/horror as well.
  • What is the important point this screenplay should make?
    1. I want it to make a point of how the characters respond when put in a mysterious situation
  • What do you want the audience to do and/or feel?
    1. I want to emphasize the feeling of suspense. The audience doesn't know what to expect and is wrapped up in the mystery along with the characters
  • Please describe a minimum of two characters using this guide.
    1. He was tall but only slightly more muscular than average. Short blonde hair was styled into a military crew cut and he wore simple clothes. He carried a backpack with a couple of tools: wire cutters, a crowbar, needlenose pliers, and a laptop.
    2. He was slightly shorter than the other but significantly less muscular. He had long black hair almost down to his shoulders. His face was much more intense than the other due to having grey eyes tucked beneath frowning eyebrows. 
  • Why does this story matter to you? Why did you choose it?
    1. I like it because I can have visually interesting shots due to an interesting setting. I can have an element of suspense which I really wanted, but I don't need to rely on it for the story to be interesting because the setting leads to very interesting thoughts without it.
  • Why will your audience be interested in this?
    1. They will be interested because of the unusual setting. An abandoned spaceship allows for sci-fi elements while retaining characters that are somewhat normal.
  • How will you grab their attention?
    1. I will grab their attention by adding an immediate element of mystery

The story follows 2 antarctic explorers as they uncover cosmic secrets deep in the antarctic. It has a wonderful mix of science fiction and suspense and it is exactly the type of horror that I like. How did this fourth week go for you? What was challenging?  What could Mr. Burr have done better?

    This week was pretty fun. It's nice to not have to worry about filming any shots and just focus on narrative. It was a little challenging to learn how to use Youmescript, and I feel like that could have been better explained.

    2. What was the most valuable thing you learned this summer in Mobile Media? Why?

    The most valuable thing that I learned this summer was definitely shot planning. It definitely helped to plan out exactly what you need to do before you do it. I might not do a lot of film making beyond this class, but it helps for more than just filmmaking to have a good plan/checklist of what needs to get done.

    3. How do you feel about the storytelling? Are you proud of your project? What went well? What could go better?

    I'm pretty happy with my project. The style felt good, but I was surprised by how short 5 pages would be, and I almost felt like I needed more pages to really get the feeling that I wanted, but besides that, I feel really good about it.

    4. Any final comments you would like to leave about this class. Likes? Dislikes? Room for improvement?

    Liked the class, especially the final project. Some of the earlier projects felt like they were a bit lacking in creative freedom, although that might just be because I wasn't creative enough when I was thinking about them.
