Article 1: Google DeepMind: AI becomes more alien

Discipline: Science/Technology
Summary: The AlphaGo program has made a big breakthrough, which is AlphaGo Zero, in AI by getting dominance in Chinese chess (围棋, or Go).
Response: As a student whose major is highly relevant to computer science, I'm extremely pleasant to see such a wonderful advance in AI because AlphaGo Zero is capable of applying an special algorithm, which is analyzing all of possible movements by itself. But I still wonder if the advanced AI will totally replace human beings because it touches much farther and more efficient than us. Will AI control people in the future like we develop them? Although I know that human beings are different from AI because people have emotion, I'm still confusing if our emotion will be converted into a great number of "cold" codes.
DQs:
1) Have you ever tried some intelligence movement like Chinese chess? What do you think about that?
2) List some applications which take advantage of AI.
3) If you are a member of the AlphaGo group, will you continue to develop AI? Why?

I haven't really look into the field of artificial intelligence because that is not a part of my major. But I was really shocked about the news. The advance in AI is definitely a revolutionary development in human history. In a way it can completely change the lives we live right now. But what I concern more is the ethnical problems brought by the AIs. Like the debate on colones, whether AIs are considered human or should they be granted human right would be a huge discussion. And if, given the tremendous ability AIs have on study, that one day they jump out of the digital confinement, what is going to happen then?

Answers:
1) I used to play Chinese Chess at the age of 10 and I had played for two years before I quit. That chess game was really interesting to play actually yet for some reasons I got that too late after I had decided to quit when I was young. Now I basically have no time for it.

3)Yes, why not? The robots with high intelligences can help achieve a lot of things human cannot do like investigate Mars, besides the fact that AIs improve living quality.
