An unusual choice of words, intentionally put together by the writer according to a particular purpose and context, in order to convey a certain emphasis or effect on the reader. (Make sure to explain the typical contrast in B clearly, before going to A's explanation of how it is unusual.)

2. Explain how it is effective. "This is effective as it emphasises to the reader that..." (C)
(Keep the writer's intention or purpose in mind when explaining HOW it is effective in creating that certain effect or emphasis on the reader.)

In this sense, she was as good in the ways of the world as a PhD holder in the degree they studied for.
