We encourage student agency, where students propose service-learning projects for themselves and their peers. Teachers will mentor students for project implementation.

Queensway practices the stage of reflection very deeply. After every learning trip or events in school. We are asked to reflect on what has went well during the preparation and during the event, and what can be improved to make the future events more successful to benefit more from them.

VIA practices can be strengthened in my school by engaging more students to explore and gain a deeper understanding as to why there are partaking in that certain VIA in hopes that they ask more questions regarding their VIA as well. They should also identify their strengths and weaknesses and conduct a formal SWOT analysis to identify threats.

Every year, we partner with the same few organisations to conduct service learning projects for our students. However, we seem to be lacking in terms of passing down the learning from seniors to juniors. We would like to look into how we can implement an effective platform for review which can be handed down for juniors to improve and learn from the previous years’ projects.

1)By presenting to the lower secondary levels our via projects so that they can see and maybe would want to try out

2)It helped me used other methods to do the via projects, for example the 5 stages of thinking.

Question 1: With the knowledge of the “5 stages” process, we learnt that each stage holds an importance in VIA and helping in the community. Our school will focus more on demonstration and learning how to demonstrate what we have learnt to inspire others.

Question 2: I used to think that social services can only be done by organisations. Now I realise that as an individual and student, we can do more to help the community.

We used to think that there was only 1 fixed approach to service learning, ours being the MICEE model implemented in our school that consists of the following stages:

Model the way

Inspire a shared vision

Challenge the process

Encourage the heart

Enable a Shared Vision

now we know there much more to the process rather than the micee models. We now understand the framework shared by the presenters
