I am still thinking about ways to assess engagement with the promotion e.g. maybe its just to see if awareness changes perceptions on usage because I know it will require time from academics to fix resources. Data increases would be good, but this is maybe more LT outside the scope of the project.

So my project idea is to develop more active, team-based assessments for the students. In particular I wish to use team-based presentations. The student population is quite large so there will be challenges but I am looking forward to encountering new forms of assessment and learning from others over the coming semester.

Despite attempts to deliver enthusiastically in meeting learning outcomes with content, it is tedious. It lacks digital innovation and the students have offered module feedback to say they find it hard to engage. I had added 2 service users to the sessions last year which were acknowledged and appreciated. I feel the module would benefit from additional input from service users and digital support through menti/vevox or nearpod

Hello Everyone

I am a Social Work lecturer. The module I am taking in S2 is preparation for practice learning. This is first year students who will be going on their first placement in Aug, if they pass this module. The module has a weekly skills class where students are in groups of approx 8 and role play the role of social worker each week to incrementally develop their communication skills. One idea I have is to enhance the authenticity of the role plays by involving service users, we currently have service user involvement but it is only for a maximum of 2 weeks. My enhancement would increase the number of opportunities to practice and develop skills in a more authentic situation and also introduce students to another service user group eg migrant community or care experienced community. Another idea for the module I am thinking about is to develop the session that I deliver at the end of the module closer to placement date on preparing for placement, this could be enhanced by involving final year students who have been on placement and inviting in Trust and/or Voluntary agency representatives to speak about expectations while on PLO. I am meeting my studies advisor next week to discuss these ideas, whilst I do the teaching on the module she is the MC.

Hello All, I am Sunish Kumar Orappanpara Soman and working as a lecturer in school of engineering. In Semester 2, I will be teaching EEE426 Engineering Programming module. It includes extensive programming part and many students. This module has only coursework that includes a student portfolio of the activities done in the tutorial/laboratory session and a class test. My project idea is to redesign the assessment structure of this module. Since it is designed as a fully coursework-based module, I think the class test assessment should be replaced with a small group-based projects and student groups should be evaluated by other faculty experts in the school similar to the assessments we conduct for the modules like final year project/placement visits. That will enhance the student understanding of the module and also improve their critical thinking, ability to work in groups, time management, etc.

Hi Everyone, my name is Seodhna Lynch and I work within the School of Medicine and School of Biomedical Sciences. I am currently coordinator for the BMS338 Enterprise in Biomedical Sciences Semester 1 module which I took over in Sep 2022. Upon discussions with my study advisor, I implemented several changes to the module, one of which is the project idea which I am using for this module. Students on the module have to work together in groups on a project (new business venture) and submit a project business plan which is structured under 5 headings as one element of assessment. The module previously lacked real-life examples which were related to the field of Biomedical Sciences and I felt this was something that would really enhance the student learning experience. I therefore wanted to incorporate a case study that I was directed involved with into the module learning materials. This case study is an authentic, real-life example directly linked to Biomedical Sciences (and Personalised Medicine) and focused on enterprise, innovation and creativity so aligned nicely with the module. I also designed and structured the presentation of the case study under the 5 headings that students had to use for their group project assignment. The purpose of this was to aid understanding of what was expected in their assessment under each heading and highlighted the relevance and importance of the module in the field of Biomedical Sciences.

There are 240 students on this module. There are 5 practical classes, which are repeated to accommodate the large numbers. These are lab based classes. I intend to replace/enhance practical 5 with a digital pathology alternative version (which will deliver the learning outcomes), and have the students provide feedback both before and after the experience to allow me to evaluate and refine the enhancement. I will use Mentimeter or perhaps Nearpod to gather the students’ feedback.

In semester 2, I will be teaching MEC704 module to master's students. This module is a core mechanical engineering and is been taught to students from interdisciplinary education and diverse background. Students taking this module have education background of Electrical, Electronics, Computer engineering etc. Some students came from countries where English was not their first language. Some students asked me to keep my teaching pace slow while other felt it quite boring. I would like to work on this problem in this project work. My aim is to enhance learning and teaching experience for interdisciplinary and diverse cohort. My solution is to pre-record lectures and demonstration and upload them on BBL and ask to listen at their own pace.

Hi there. My name is Jason and I teach within the School of Sport. My idea, which I discussed and refined during the 1-hour tutorial, revolves around implementing group-based practical activities during the Research Methods module I teach on. Some feedback last year suggested that students wanted some more collaborative opportunities. At the moment, the practical classes are essentially individual efforts working through data analysis tasks. The main objective is to help foster and increase student interaction and engagement with in-class activities during class. Another objective would be to explore if there is any improvement in the marks during the end-of-module class test compared with previous years (although I appreciate this is not a like-for-like comparison but will give some indication of any improved application of knowledge).

Hi all, my name is Zeeshan Tariq and I am a lecturer at the School of Computing, Belfast. I have been the module coordinator for a few modules at my school. My project idea is regarding ‘assessment and feedback’ and it's based on my experience as an MC and teacher for one of the modules. In S1 & S2 21/22, students had expressed several concerns regarding the understanding of one of the CW of that module and mainly issues are around understanding the scope and formulating the grounds for submission. There are several interventions possible, among those two have been in-placed since S3 and students' feedback is postitive. There has been an increase in student average grades, and the number of delayed submissions/EC1s & student queries have been reduced significantly. Hope this is good ground to begin PHE707 and I can explore further interventions.

My project idea intends to solve communication challenges of SUST Chinese students studying via Cloud Campus at Ulster University. I intend to use Microsoft PowerPoint subtitles to engage them better in Teaching and Learning. I had two ideas (a. English to Chinese or b. English to English) prior to my discussion with my line manager who ended up accepting option b. Thanks to Dr. Amanda Platt who helped refine this idea during the tutorial session. Going forward, I strongly believe that PHE707 will provide a pedagogical tarmac towards achieving this project, amongst others. Thank you!

I am the MC for a module that required an action plan due to an significant failure rate in the written assignment. During Semester 1 implemented a number pf actions to help support the students with academic writing and have seen improvement in the pass rates, but also see opportunity for further refinement next academic year. I think this retrospective project will give me the opportunity to review the evidence base for changes implemented and help me to inform future iterations.

Hi all, it's Debbie Greaves here, I am a social work lecturer and joined UU in September 2021, so still feel very new! My enhancement idea is to include service users in the teaching of a module I am co-ordinator for (Family and childcare). This is to give students an authentic understanding of what it feels like to have a social worker knock on your door and discuss concerns about your parenting with you. It is aligned with many social work strategies and there is a robust evidence base for service user involvement.
