Calvinism is the type of religion that the puritans believed in. Calvinism was developed by John Calvin. The followers of Calvinism believed that salvation was given by faith alone. They also believed in predestination where salvation only belongs to the chosen. Total depravity was another aspect of their religion. Everyone who was born was born a sinner until they become chosen. Limited atonement is the belief that Christ did only for the elect.

Due to religion having a big role throughout Puritan society, religion was also brought into the government. The Puritans ran a Theocracy in which government officials were the church officials. This makes it so government and religion are combined rather than separated. If one were to defy the government the would also be defying the church as well. Theocracy is a key factor into killing witches.

Puritan children were born to be extremely faithful. Once the children become teenagers, they become more rebellious and want to have more fun.
