Virginia's main focus in colonizing was getting land, getting money, and making profit of colonizing in the New World. Unlike many other establishments in North America, the Virginia colonists really disliked the Natives and did not want to make any agreements. They had frequent clashes with the Indians. One Englishmen, however, named Nathaniel Bacon, rebelled against Virginia's government and fought for the rights of Native Americans and their rightful territory. Maryland's main focus in colonizing was to gain real estate while at the same time spread the Catholic religion and mostly all Christian religions alike. "Unlike the Virginians, the early people of Maryland had no Indian assaults, no plagues, and no starving time". The conflict in Maryland only occurred in disputes between Catholics and Protestants, both other than this peace was a common theme in the newly established land.

New England's main focus in colonizing was to create a safe haven for Puritans. Rather than a financial venture, this was more of a business/religion-related move. The New Englanders had fairly positive encounters with the Natives up until disputes formed and the Pequot and King Philip's War occurred. In these wars, the technological advancements of the English carried them to victory. They established a formal colonial government and began to spread outward from the capital of Boston.
