Families and neighbors do not talk to each other if their ancestors fought on different sides of the war. They also avoid each other if their ancestors were soupers, which is people who converted religions to eat at the protestant soup kitchen. 

Rebellion- Frank eats Bill's dinner instead of delivering it to him. Frank also ditches his dance classes and uses the money to go to the cinema and buy candy. Death and Advantage- Frank had a friend named Mickey Spellacy who he talks about how Mickey had family members who always died and Mickey would take the whole week off or his mom would put a black pin on Mickey and Mickey would get free money from people because they thought he was grieving over his family member loss.

Friendship- Frank grew a friendship and got closer to Mr. Timoney, he built it by feeling safer with that person and he can share his emotions with Mr.Timoeny. In the book, it mentions You're not supposed to talk back to grownups but Mr.Timoney is different and he doesn't mind what Frank says.
