The bear was trying to convince people in power that they were wrong but because they had the power position their answers were always believed. A connection is that this reminds me of Greta Thunberg who keeps standing up to powerful leaders because she knows she is right, and she is keeping true to what she believes in. The bear did not back down just because he was told he was wrong he kept his beliefs no matter what he was told. (Charlotte)

Other connections I can make are there is a ton of gaslighting in this book and there is a lot of gaslighting in the world. For example, if you tell someone that they don’t fit in with their community enough times they start to believe they don’t fit in. (Des)

-----

The connection I can make is this seems a lot like our society. From the day we’re born we are assigned a gender and traits and an appearance, and we are repeatedly told: “you’re a girl” or “you’re a boy” and we don’t have to believe them. Depending on if you're a minority or not, there are a lot of stereotypes that society thinks apply to you, for example : “If you’re a girl, you’re sensitive and fragile.”. These are drilled into people’s heads, just like the fact that the bear was not a bear was drilled into his head as well. (can't remember...anyone?)

A connection I can make between the bear and our world is that if enough people say that you are or aren’t something, that's what you will start to think. For example, if you are different (poc, Jewish, lgbtqia+), you have to act this or act like that or you are what you really are at heart, and some people start to believe that they, let's say Jewish, start to believe that they aren’t or shouldn’t be Jewish.
