When Shaun was talking to Dr. Melendez about whether or not to do the MRI on the autistic patient, Shaun voiced his opinion regarding why they shouldn’t progress with test. Dr. Melendez was surprised that Shaun voiced such a strong opinion. It is nice to see how the staff at the hospital are gaining respect for Shaun, allowing him to increase his confidence and decision making skills. I also noticed an increase in Shaun’s confidence when Dr. Glassman was trying to dissuade him from buying the $1,600 television. Shaun stood up for himself, telling the doctor that he is not a child and that he should do his own budget. At first, he did not appear to have the courage to treat the patient since the parents did not appear to approve of Shaun as a doctor. As the episode continues, he was the only one that was able to recognize and help the patient through his challenges. The team turned their mindset and actually asked Shaun for guidance to help the patient, since he would know best on the patients thoughts and feelings. I also think watching him ask for help and work as a team member shows increased self-confidence.
