They decide to stop at Bates Motel because they traveled on the back roads because Marion Crane and Sam Loomis were trying to avoid the police. In the hotel, Marion and Sam meet Norman Bates. Lila Crane, Marion's sister, comes to find her at Bates Motel. After finding nothing, she's about to leave when she sees Norman coming up the walk. Lila hides behind the stairs when she sees him, and while she's behind the stairs, she notices a door leading to the cellar. Upon opening the door and walking in, she see's Norman's mother in a chair. When Lila turns Norman's mother to look at her, she leans that she's mummified. Lila screams. Norman ends up hearing her, and he tries to kill her, dressed as his mother, but Sam stops him. Also, you don't when she's in the shower and you see the shadow with the knife, you wonder is someone going to kill her? Why are they going to kill her? Then, when you see the guy dragging the body, you ask yourself who is it? Why or how did she get killed. When someone is driving to the motel you think to yourself, why are they driving all the way to the motel.
