Yogis parents were Pietro and Paulina. they were both born and raised in Malvaglio a town in northern Italy. They came to America for opportunity. Yogi had three older brothers, Micheal, Johnny,  Tony and a little sister named Josie. After the Yankees lost to the cardinals in the wold series they checked in with Yogi. After they got good news about him they offered him a contract for $90 a month and $500 signing bonus. Before starting with the Yankees Yogi did some time in  the navy in world war ll. Yogi-isms were funny sounding quotes and comments that some what make sense said by Yogi. Since there are so many its hard to choose the best ones but here are a few of his greatest:                                 -" When you come to a fork in the road take it". His house was on to forking of two roads so this was how he gave directions to it.
-" Its like deja vu  all over again".This was his comment when his teammates Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris again hit back to back home runs. 
-"Nobody goes there anymore, its too crowded". Yogi Berra said this to a friend about a restaurant that was near his house which had become so popular it became less fun to go to. 
-"It aint over till its over". This was his response to he gave to a reporter when he was coaching the Mets about never giving up.
-"Cut the pizza into four slices I cant eat eight". This one really doesn't have an explanation it just showed the sense of humor he had.

Yogi later on had three sons, Dale, Tim and Larry Berra. Dale went on to to play major league baseball from 1977-1987 for the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees and Houston Astros. Yogi lead them to the world series but was still fired before the next season. Yogi moved on the the Mets and coached for them. In 1972 he was elected for hall of fame and had his number 8 retired. He became manager from 1972 to 1975 and then went back to the Yankees from 1976 to 1984.
