"All About Me" 2nd Grade ELA

Students will write a paragraph about themselves, including key details such as their name, age, favorite things, and interests. Students will be using a graphic organizer to brainstorm and organize their ideas. Then will be asked to apply this information and turn it into an All About Me paragraph. Once the graphic organizer, and paragraph is completed, students will be able to share with the class all about them!

I will be showing a visual presentation of everything about me. Each slide will have an example of my favorite food, color, hobby, etc. Then I will continue to go through the presentation slides that share each step of the “All About Me” graphic organizer to explain what is expected. I will then show a graphic organizer that is about to share an example of the final product, and students will be able to see it while working on theirs. I will then share the goal with the class that by the end of this project they will have this graphic organizer completed and will be able to write a paragraph that is all about them.

After I share the visual presentation with examples on each slide, as well as having a physical copy of my final product as an example, students will be encouraged to think about their own answers and will be handed their own graphic organizer with time to fill out and complete.

Once students are done filling out the guided questions for all about them, they will be encouraged to turn to a neighbor and share what they have written down. Then once they are complete, they will turn their attention to the board where I will then go through the steps on how to structure a paragraph. Each step will explain how it is to be done. I will then ask “what is the one thing that a topic sentence needs to include?” If a student is able to answer then I will then move onto the next question and ask “Do the 3 body sentences need to include your hobbies, favorite color, and favorite foods?” If students answer yes, then I will ask what the final question is about, and students will say their answer to share their thoughts.

Students will be given a handout that has lines on the page with the 3 topics that need to be included to guide their thinking. Students will look at their answers from their graphic organizers to help them write out their sentences and apply that to the paragraph. Once their paragraph is complete, they will have a one-on-one meeting with me, where I will look over their work and share some suggestions to make their paragraph stronger. Once the rough draft has been looked over by me, they will fix suggestions to create their final draft. Once their final draft is complete, they will glue their paragraph page to the correct spot on the graphic organizer.

Students will then be able to correct their graphic organizer and paragraph, then will be able to share their graphic organizer with the class to share what they have included. This allows myself, and their peers to learn more about them, as well as share and speak in front of their classmate
