When I was in 4th grade we were told that poems were being submitted throughout the country to be published in this children's poetry book. So our teachers wanted us to write some poems and submit them so see if they would get published. Well I decided to write this 17 line poem about fall and I thought it was amazing. I used sensory details and descriptive words and was so proud of myself. I was also told to write a Haiku poem just for the project we were doing. It was about my cat. Very uninteresting, very plain, and very typical for a 4th grader. Well my teacher had me submit both and guess which one they picked. The stupid cat one. This was the first time that I had been so confused about my writing skills.

In 5th grade I had this crazy teacher named Mrs. Moore. We were always doing activities and projects and assignments that no one else was doing. So she had us do something called the "All About Me" book. Its where we had to have 25 pieces of writing (all different) about ourselves in some way. whether that be our future selves, what we liked doing now, or making up events to write a persuasive essay about. Now I've always thought that Im a pretty good writer. I just always thought what I wrote was good and It usually was. This book allowed me to write about whatever I wanted which kind of opened up my eyes to writing in a new way with a new love and being able to express that with so many different types of writing was amazing. I didn't realize it then because I was usually stressed about finishing the pieces on time but when I was finished I just kind of stopped and said "well what do i do now". And class wasn't as fun anymore.

The first actual essay that I had to write was on the first day of 6th grade and it was about my summer book. My teacher explained the layout and how much time we had and It was different than what I was used to. I didn't mind it, it was just... different. Different rules were starting to come in and It was like being introduced to a new world.

I had never been asked to write a paper that was at least 15 pages until I was a freshman in high high school. This is when MLA came into the picture and TurnItIn.com and it was very stressful. If you didn't do it a certain way you were penalized even if it was for the tiniest mistake. This is when writing changed for me. It wasn't fun anymore and the thought of doing just stressed me out. On my very first paper my teacher counted me for plagiarism because I did the quoting wrong. I rewrite the whole paper and worked so hard to make up for it but she didn't give me any of the credit back and that really ruined writing for me.

This is when writing started becoming fun for me again because most of the writing was about my point of views on things and basically about my life. I got to write reviews on my high school and my teachers which was really different.
