I have had students do podcast conversations via zoom, through the audio, like sharing their research strategies and topics, so other students can hear. I use anchor.fm or spotify to upload the audio episodes and use otter.ai for transcript or within zoom. The conversations are like 5-10 minutes long. Tell us why you chose this topic and explain to a 3rd grader the research topic etc... -Ray Pun

I really dig Hypothesis for social annotations, especially of longer form reading. It allows students to read and annotate in a single space, so it allows them to see each other's comments. You can also enable it for Youtube videos, which allows students to watch the same video and add their annotations to the transcript of the video. It integrates with the LMS, so the student's annotations show up as entries for grading.

We have tested a few different tools to help students create a visual outline that maps their research sources to their thesis/research question and subtopics. The end product looks like map for their paper. This was used in a first-year writing program when students were struggling to organize their claims and sources in a traditional outline activity. We started with LucidChart and JamBoard (not available after Dec 31, 2024) and have expanded to using other tools based on student preference.
