I think it will be very difficult to find a way to make it optional and not have our students in need singled out. I do think there needs to be some accountability for students who don't report to the cafe. I think that the split for the two upper classes and lower classes made sense before we did this but I believe we need to go to our regular lunch schedule. The seniors are crammed into the big cafe and about 20 to 30 people are always standing which is a safety issue. I think the second lunch should be immediately follow the first lunch. I know that would split one class but the second lunch is always crowding the exits 2 to 3 minutes before the bell rings. This again is a safety issue. I think less people eat second lunch because of the imminent dismissal. I believe this is a good idea but it needs some tweaking.

However, could we offer a quiet study area for students to go who would rather get work done instead of eating? I can't imagine the only students who would stay in the cafe to either socialize or eat would be the reduced-lunch population.

(Now that we've done it this way for a while, I miss seeing all of our classes--even if it was just for 35 minutes, especially with certain blocks getting cut into or eliminated more than others within a term. But that's a different Padlet.)
