Wind turbines have replaced windmills in modern times. Electricity can be generated using wind turbines. In a similar way to windmills, wind turbines are placed on top of a tower to get most of the energy.

China uses wind power the most. China has installed a total capacity of at least 168.7 Gigawatts as of 2016 being the latest record I could find. China appears to make the most wind power in the world. It has made huge investments in renewable energy,  mainly wind power. It’s global market share in wind power is 52%, according to the world wind energy organization. China has set a goal to install 10 Gigawatts of offshore wind energy by 2020. In 2016 China was in the third position globally according to Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) report. China’s state owned company, Huaneg Group has begun a commercial operation of its 300 Megawatts offshore wind park. The park is situated off the coast of Rudong County in Jiangsu province.

The most wind farms in South Africa are found in coastal areas such as East London and Cape Town due to the high wind speed on the coast of south Africa. South Africa does have a plan to correct the negative impacts that have been caused by  having Cape Town implement multiple wind farms which are at the moment successful in generating significant amounts of electricity for coastal residents. Wind farms consist of many wind turbines. The kinetic energy of wind makes the turbines turn. The turning of the turbines is used by the electric generator which generates electricity. This electricity is then sent to other places for electrical appliances and other devices. Wind power is renewable, clean, and uses little land. The best places for these wind farms are areas that get a lot of wind throughout the year to generate as much electricity as possible. The effects on the environment from wind farms are far less dangerous than non-renewable power like fossil fuels. Wind off the shore is steadier and stronger than on land, and are less noticeable by the public, but construction and maintenance costs are higher.
