For these reasons, I hoped to have a new opportunity in the New World but I was worried because I didn't know what was going to happen. After a long hard sea journey, I was classified with information from my ship. After a while, I had to wait in a long queue for a medical and a legal inspection to decide if I was suitable enough to entry the United States. Most of us passed successfully but others didn't make it. I couldn't stop thinking about my family and how my life would change. However, I was trying to think in a positive way and start a new future in Ellis Island.

The Statue of Liberty, a symbol of new life, and this is what I’m looking for. I’m here now, standing in front of Ellis Island. I only have to pass the medical revision, but that's nothing if we compare it to the life everyone here had before, and, in the end, I will be able to say, I have escaped from the persecutions, the famines and the crazy taxes and I'll be able to meet my family again.

Maybe it’s just a dream, but this feeling of happiness is absolutely real.

The journey was extremely hard but now I feel it was the right choice.
The view of that wonderful Statue of Liberty was something amazing and whatever happened anything could never remove it neither from my mind nor from my heart.
Lots of feelings invaded me at that moment, but the most important thing was knowing that from that moment on I was really alone and I would have to fight very hard to succeed in my new life. And of course I was going to get it !
