Biography of a Rosa Parks!

Rosa Parks was a black American citizen, who marked a lot of society in the 1950s; it was seen as a symbol of resistance against racism, which was very strong at the time. She became known for the act of "disobedience" to civilians, when she denied a white man his seat on a bus in Alabama. Born February 4, 1913, died October 24, 2005.
She, as mentioned before, marked a lot because of her fight against racism; alongside: Martin Luther King and Malcolm X.
That action she did with the white man went so far as to start a movement fighting for the civil rights of blacks in the United States. Thanks to her, racial segregation on buses in the United States ended.
Racial segregation has always been a nuisance to her, but she joined the fight against this situation after marrying Raymond Parks, inheriting the Parks surname. Through her husband's influence, Rosa Parks joined the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
One of his actions was also very famous, was his support for young people known as Scottsboro Boys, nine blacks who were accused of raping a woman. Young people were really innocent, but because they were black, they were jealous. These are just a few actions that Rosa did, as she has many others.
Rosa Parks rebuilt her life. She worked during her later years for John Convers, a black congressman, in the capacity of secretary. During the following decades, she remained directly linked to the fight against racism in the United States, and officially retired in 1988.
He was one of the greats in American history in the 20th century. His action was crucial to give strength to the movement that fought against racism in the United States, a problem that has significantly decreased in that country since the 1950s, but which still harms the lives of its population. Even today, in the 21st century, racism is a serious problem in the United States.

Manuela Hornos Nº 25
Maria Eduarda Porcatti Nº 27

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States, ruling from 1861 to 1865. It was in his government that an American Civil War took place, caused by the Lack of certainty of Lincoln's victory by the southern states in the presidential election of 1860. Lincoln was also marked as the president who decreed the emancipation of African Americans in the United States. In the 1830s, Lincoln decided to enter politics and, before enlisting, he had already expressed his desire to hold a position in local politics. In 1832, he tried to join the Illinois General Assembly, but failed. Two years later, he ran for election to the Illinois House of Representatives.Lincoln's candidacy was given by the Whig Party, being a successful candidacy. Lincoln served as a representative in this house from 1834 until 1842, during which time he divided his time between politics and law (he began to study law in 1836). In 1846, Lincoln's political career took a leap forward with his election to the United States House of Representatives in Washington.Lincoln had a term in Washington until 1849 and did not seek reelection. At the time, he had already expressed his positions against the expansion of slavery into new territories (new lands conquered or purchased by the United States) and was an outspoken critic of the Mexican-American War. After his term, Lincoln devoted himself to his legal career. The 1850s were a tense decade in American history. The debate about slavery was central, especially in terms of its use in the new territories. Northerners did not agree with the expansion of slavery to other states and Southerners were advocates of slavery throughout the country. The debate came to a head when the Kansas-Nebraska Act was passed, which allowed slavery to be brought into the Kansas and Nebraska territories on the basis of the individual freedom of citizens. This law of 1854 was responsible for causing a strong division within the Whig Party, causing dissidents and supporters of abolition to rally into a new party: the Republican Party.Lincoln was one of the greats of the Republicans and, between 1858 and 1859, he returned to politics to run for the Senate, but was defeated by Stephen A. Douglas. In 1860, the Republican Convention decided that Abraham Lincoln would be the party's candidate for the presidency of the United States. It was a tense race, but the Democratic votes were split between two candidates: Stephen A. Douglas and John Breckinridge. There was still a fourth candidate, named John Bell, but the result was the victory of Abraham Lincoln. The Republican candidate had 40% of the votes and 180 out of 303 electoral colleges. After the conflict, the United States went through the period of Reconstruction, the moment in which the reconstruction of the South took place, the restoration of their political rights and the consolidation of the emancipation of African-Americans. Lincoln took a more moderate stance, but many of the Union Congressmen demanded heavy punishment for Southerners. These issues were debated in Lincoln's second presidential term, which began in 1865 with his victory in the 1864 presidential election, when he defeated Democrat George B. McClellan by a significant margin. The wounds of the war were still many and this became visible with the conspiracies that emerged against the president. Former Confederates articulated a kidnapping plan, which did not advance, and an assassination plan. The plan to assassinate the president was put into action by John Wilkes Booth, an actor and former Confederate spy. He teamed up with others to plot the death of Abraham Lincoln, putting that plan into action on April 14, 1865. At the time, Lincoln was in a theater in Washington.Lincoln was shot in the head and died of gunshot wounds on April 15. The killer, John Wilkes Booth, was found days later on a farm in Virginia and was killed after resisting arrest. Another eight people were arrested for participating in the conspiracy against the president and, of these, four were sentenced to death by hanging.

Malala

Who Is Malala Yousafzai? Malala is a Pakistani education advocate who, at the age of 17 in 2014, became the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize after surviving an assassination attempt by the Taliban. Malala became an advocate for girls' education when she herself was still a child, which resulted in the Taliban issuing a death threat against her. On October 9, 2012, a gunman shot Malala when she was traveling home from school. She survived and has continued to speak out on the importance of education. In 2013, she gave a speech to the United Nations and published her first book, I Am Malala.

Early Life

He was born on July 12, 1997, in Mingora, Pakistan, located in the country's Swat Valley. For the first few years of her life, Malala's hometown remained a popular tourist spot that was known for its summer festivals. The area began to change as the Taliban tried to take control.

Education Activist

Yousafzai attended a school that her father, educator Ziauddin Yousafzai, had founded. After the Taliban began attacking girls' schools in Swat, Yousafzai gave a speech in Peshawar, Pakistan, in September 2008. The title of her talk was, "How dare the Taliban take away my basic right to education?"In early 2009, when she was just 11 years old, Yousafzai began blogging for the BBC about living under the Taliban's threats to deny her an education. In order to hide her identity, she used the name Gul Makai. However, she was revealed to be the BBC blogger in December of that year. With a growing public platform, Yousafzai continued to speak out about her right, and the right of all women, to an education. Her activism resulted in a nomination for the International Children's Peace Prize in 2011. That same year, she was awarded Pakistan's National Youth Peace Prize.Yousafzai and her family learned that the Taliban had issued a death threat against her because of her activism. Though Yousafzai was frightened for the safety of her father — an anti-Taliban activist — she and her family initially felt that the fundamentalist group would not actually harm a child.

Shot by the Taliban

On October 9, 2012, when 15-year-old Yousafzai was riding a bus with friends on their way home from school, a masked gunman boarded the bus and demanded to know which girl was Yousafzai. When her friends looked toward Yousafzai, her location was given away. The gunman fired at her, hitting Malala in the left side of her head; the bullet then traveled down her neck. Two other girls were also injured in the attack. The shooting left Yousafzai in critical condition, so she was flown to a military hospital in Peshawar. A portion of her skull was removed to treat her swelling brain. To receive further care, she was transferred to Birmingham, England.Once she was in the United Kingdom, Yousafzai was taken out of a medically induced coma. Though she would require multiple surgeries—including repair of a facial nerve to fix the paralyzed left side of her face — she had suffered no major brain damage. In March 2013, she was able to begin attending school in Birmingham. The shooting resulted in a massive outpouring of support for Yousafzai, which continued during her recovery. Unfortunately, the Taliban still considers Yousafzai a target, although Yousafzai remains a staunch advocate for the power of education.

Speech at the U.N.

Nine months after being shot by the Taliban, Yousafzai gave a speech at the United Nations on her 16th birthday in 2013. Yousafzai highlighted her focus on education and women's rights, urging world leaders to change their policies.Following the attack, Yousafzai said that “the terrorists thought that they would change our aims and stop our ambitions, but nothing changed in my life except this: weakness, fear and hopelessness died. Strength, power and courage were born.”

https://www.biography.com/video/malala-yousafzai-biography-video

Ana Laura Lazarini nº3
Lais Deangelo nº20
Teodoro nº33
