Contrasting the Players

Bill Frissel's playing is very melodic and his band is very tight. He also does mostly instrumental songs only (No vocals). His playing is interesting and his tone is most of the time clean. On the other hand, Wayne Krantz incorporates funk elements into his playing. He uses a stratocaster which uses single coil pickups which gives him a spanky , clear tone, kind of like wulfpeck. When listening to Krantz, he likes everyone one of the instruments to be heard and not just have one be the main focus. Majority of his songs have interesting bass lines with funky, guitar lines. Frissel uses many effects on his guitar. Some of his numbers have violin on it which sounds great. He uses effects such as delay, reverb, distortion, and vibrola. One song that he covers is a link Wray song called Rumble. Ive heard this song before he covered it and it is great. The song has distortion and vibrola at the end of each bar. Krantz's playing reminds me a lot of Cory Wong and Eric Johnson. His playing is nice to listen to.
