This means that plant cells contain both chloroplast and mitochondria. The mitochondria is known as the power house of the cell. Substrates broken down in the cytoplasm are transported into the mitochondria and converted into ATP to be used for various needs. Mitochondria are also involved in cellular differentiation and cell death. The mitochondria play a role in aging. They are organelles that act like a digestive system taking in nutrients, breaking them down and creating energy rich molecules for the cell. The biochemical processes of the cell are known as cellular respiration.

In Springfield the nuclear power plant acts similarly to the mitochondria. Reactions occur within the power plant which provides energy for the town.

Found in plant and animal cells
The nucleolus, found in the nucleus and made of proteins, DNA and RNA, has the primary function of combining and constructing a wide amount of ribosomes, also has the vital role in making proteins within the cell, they participate in the formation of signal recognition particles and have a role in the cells reaction to stress. It makes ribosomal subunits from proteins and ribosomal RNA (rRNA). Using these subunits, sending them out within the rest of the cell which then combine to make ribosomes (situated in the endoplasmic reticulum) which make proteins.

The Old Factory in Springfield gives a great example of the nucleolus. The cells are like the citizens of Springfield, they do not want hammers and saws they want homes and cars (goods). Just like the cell does not want ribosomes produced from the nucleolus (the factory) it wants the proteins from the ribosomes. The factory produces tools that can be used to build different things, just like the ribosomes that the nucleolus produces, can build a wide variety of protein.
